I feel like there’s a common component of mansplaining that people don’t address, and that’s giving the same advice over and over while not actually engaging with the actual speaker’s questions/concerns. Its fucking infuriating.
Dad: “Just make sure you take I-90 when you drive over there.”
Me: *no shit, sherlock, my car got wrecked last time I went there on I-10* “I will definitely on the way there, and my GPS is more likely to send me to go on I-90 this time overall because its a better system. But on the way back, I don’t know the area. If it sends me over and over again to I-10, then I don’t know the area well enough to have much of a choice.”
Dad: “Yeah. Well, just make sure you take I-90.”
Like, THAT ISN’T AN ACTUAL MOTHERFUCKING SOLUTION????? DID YOU EVEN HEAR WHAT I SAID??????
The more a man cares about you, the more likely it is they just repeat shit at you like you’re a moron. Even after you say, “Yes, I know” or give them a good reason why you can’t. It’s as if they think our non-logic filled brains will just do something on a whim, like I’ll take the unsafe road despite knowing better because it’s closer to a shoe store or some shit.
All this “men give solutions when women just want sympathy” ideas are woefully incomplete. We want you to listen to us and not just give solutions at us. Maybe give us half the benefit of the doubt like you give your male associates, not just assume we floundered around doing nothing about a problem until a white knight like you showed up, FUCK.
