Meet General Sherman. At 275-feet tall and with a circumference of 36-feet in diameter at the base it is the world's largest tree by volume. Sequoia National Park's Mono Rock Trail on 11/11/20: A few pics from the snowy, icy, and accordingly terrifying trail up to the most unimaginably mind-blowing views from Mono Rock. The road to Mono Rock was closed, so we decided to run there (or as close to running as you can do through snow and ice in regular shoes 😝). I guess that's why we saw close to no one else on the way out or back. In fact, it was so incredibly quiet out that the only sounds, other than ours, seemed to be the occasional tree branch giving way to the weight of snow and breaking or perhaps a small gust of wind here or there. The stairs up the trail were covered in thick, slick ice and cliff-adjacent, so we had to stay pretty low on all fours or on our butt with two hands on the rail and just really take our time for a lot of it. It made the parts of my feet that I could still feel tingle, but having that spot to ourselves was like nothing else. 🙌 As for the occasion, @uks34n and I drove out overnight to spend Veteran's Day at Sequoia National Park. The free holiday admission was a welcome excuse to get the hell out of the damn desert sandbox we live in. It meant staying up 28 hours, but the free food and drink deals at gas stations along the way kept us caffeinated and on permanent sugar highs. 🥴 A couple of bonus pics of us with General Sherman, the largest tree in the world, thrown in for good measure.
