It’s the story I want to tell more than anything, and there are no words to describe how taken aback I am because of you and that anon--because there are still people who care and support it, even after all this trouble. Is Genesins still an ongoing thing? No pressure, just so I know if I should except it to continue. :)

Thank you for your question! Genesins is still an ongoing project of mine, and the story and the characters are very much alive and evolving. However, content-wise it has kinda been on hiatus for a year. With my current health (was unfortunate to fall ill with two seperate, long-term illnesses one after another), I am unable to draw comics as I used to. I’m trying to come up with a way to change my style and story-telling so that drawing it wouldn’t be so physically taxing. I’m planning on restarting it again sooner or later, preferably in scrollable episode-centric webcomic. I haven’t been drawing much original art involving it (not much original art in general), cause those arts always work the best with the context. Without the comic and the story, they kind of lose their appeal.

I hope my answer is satisfactory. If you have any other questions, big or small, concerning my comic and characters, I’d gladly answer them too : )

I have some other Christmas pictures coming up, but this is from me as a person. It’s my idiot son dressing cheesily and having a good time. Added in an Allen plushie because DGM has been, pretty much, plaguing my mind and blogs evers since I got back to reading it. STILL my sons and daughters have not been forgotten and I’m working on their stories alongside all these other, relaxing projects. But merry Christmas for everyone following my shenanigans--I’m thankful for all the space, no matter how big or small, you’re giving me :)

I'd wanna share my creative projects but I'm bad at paraphrasing them properly in a nutshell :/ So, tell us about Genesins' hook; what is going to get your readers' interesest? Also if you would like, share your favourite hooks from other works!

Hey that’s great! I don’t mind about rambling or long texts, so no need to be worried about bothering me. If there’s something that’s unclear I’ll propably ask questions that’ll clear it out! That’s what I do when I’m interested in something and want understand it better.

Now, to the hooks… Oh boy try and bear with MY ramblings. I’ll list some that I think will help me and explain why I think/choose so. Can’t pick one only.

1. Distortion of reality. I tend to use visual language and symbolism that’ll depict things from various perspectives. There are many cases where my characters are in different emotional situation (or consciousness) than their environment, so the look of the comic will be distorted according to those feelings. Two characters may experience different feelings and reasoning, which I’d like to express via pictures rather than pure text. I also use this to foreshadow and connect things. Example: Butterflies are very important for the first book. They appear through the first big arc as hints to the readers. The story also starts with the protagonist being eaten by said insects in metaphorical sense.

2. Mystery. Yeah I love mysteries and there are lot’s of them. Wanna make them strong enough to keep the readers interested.

3. Possibilities. Thanks to the setting of my work, readers will see the amount of possibilities the plot and environment can offer. What I have picked are some rather unusual but interesting ones besides the usual clitches.

4. Characters. I’ll try and make them interesting, different compared to each other and humane in both good and bad ways. This means they will learn and grow, sometimes for worse. Most of them would definitely earn the title “problematic” as they will make stupid and bad things and act narrow-mindedly. They will not end up as perfect saints, but they will learn thanks to interacting with other characters that act and think differently to them.

My first challenge is knowing I write for very niche audience as my work is both overly cute and ridiculously dark, has humane animal characters, lot’s of philosophical and psychological aspects and I tend to leave some things up to imagination rather than explain every single detail. Another one is my own health.

Then some of the hooks I love in other people’s works that come into my mind.

1. Concept of Silent Hill. In said games, what the place called Silent Hill is something you will keep thinking through the whole story. It’s interesting and constantly present in threatening sense, which makes it impossible to ignore.

2. “Your sin is your very existence.” Is how Pandora Hearts starts, showing protagonist being cast into Abyss. You will want an explanation for these kinds of powerful claims and events.

3. Possibility of everything. Love Professor Layton for this: you never know what excatly is possible in said universe, so you’ll keep on considering some rather unusual twists.

4. Hope and happiness. VERY IMPORTANT! In many dark or twisted works, there has to be the possibility of happiness. I hate works that are all about misery, where the only meaning for momental happiness is to be taken away to hurt the characters even more. I cannot care for the character that has no hope in any sense, they’d be better of dead. Hope and happiness are not to be automatically linked to surviving death, as there are many ways the character can be content besides being alive. Good examples include Stephen King’s Misery (hehe) and manga called Godchild.

5. Responsibility. In Undertale. This propably works only in interactive media, and I LOVE IT. You bear the consequences of your decisions and actions, as they will be permanent in some way or another.

In creative mood

I’m over the moon since I’ve recently been able to do some major world, plot and character building for my original comic. Last night was really prductive, and after lot’s of research I think I’m finally coming down with the terminology. The story is also becomming solider with good flow and proper causal connections. And, most inportantly, I’m finally able to make it FEEL like I want it to. Some of the twists I’ve cooked for it may finally be able to tug something from the inside of possible readers. God I miss artistic communities and groups, and the possibility of developing, sharing and discussing stuff with other creative people. Too bad I haven’t been able to keep connected or feel like I belong anywhere in a long time. It’s pretty much me and one or two friends I’m able to share this joy with, which doesn’t feel enough at all. If somebody wants to talk about their own projects/artistic or creative stuff in general I’d be happy to listen.
