Ma and Pa Kent try not to use/abuse Clark’s extra abilities and powers (mostly because it doesn’t even occur to them to try) except for the cow. The one cow who formed some sort of attachment to Clark when he was growing up and is despondent whenever Clark is away. An escape artist of a cow who, despite being sold upwards of three times, despite being given every treat under the sun and many pets from Clark when he visits the farm, is unable to accept that Smallville is actually really, really far away from Metropolis, even on four legs instead of two.

Which is all to say, sometimes Ma has to call Clark to come and find the cow before it makes it too far down the interstate. Sometimes the cow is in other farmers’ fields looking for Clark. One time someone picked the cow up and actually took it a farm not far from the suburbs of Metropolis.

(Eventually Clark gets tired of playing literal pickup and decides to give the cow to an equally intriguing and friendly substitute who happens to have farmland somewhat near Metropolis: Bruce Wayne)
