God created man in his own image. In God's image he created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27
Genesis 1:28 God blessed them. God said to them. āBe fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.ā
Day 1: Genesis 1
God made everything. Woah.
God made everything in this order:
The heaven and the earth
Light and darkness (day and night)
Heaven
Earth and Seas
Plants
The sun and the moon and stars
Sea creatures and sky creatures
Earth creatures
Man
One of the cool things I learned about reading the Bible during my days in Catholic School is to look for 'red flags' in the reading. The big one here occurs in Genesis 1:26 where God said "Let us make man inĀ ourĀ image, afterĀ ourĀ likeness." Who are they? I guess the obvious answer is God as represented by the Holy Trinity; we can easily see Jesus represented as a man and God represented as an old man, but it's sort of weird to imagine us made out of the likeness of the Holy Spirit. Maybe our likeness of the Holy Spirit is our spiritual side, our soul. And in that case, our likeness to God is our so called "dominion" over all the creatures on Earth and our likeness to Jesus is our physical humanness.Ā
God also gave several commands to humans:
Be fruitful
Multiply
Replenish the earth
Subdue [the earth]
Have dominion over every living thing
It appears that with over 7 billion people alive today, we are indeed being fruitful and multiplying. Nice job humanity! We are also subduing the Earth pretty well. Nice job guys! Keep up the good work!
I don't think we're replenishing the earth very much though, and we're not exerting our dominion very well over all the species that we are killing. I find it interesting though how the focus of these basic instructions from God are:
Make more people
Balance your relationship with nature
This moral direction does indeed seem like the natural yearning of humanity.
Also, God gave us all the plants for us to thrive and survive. Thanks God! Thanks for the universe!
