Imagine that there’s a sudden spate of ghosts appearing, but only being visible to people with a close (2 or 3 generations) genetic link, regardless of the emotional relationship.
Something about the situation has Loki worried enough that he goes to the Avengers under a genuine flag of truce, but Thor’s the only one willing to hear him out – he’s picked up on much the same dodgy vibe as Loki, Grandpa Bor showed up the previous night and was a colossal arsehole, and the other Avengers were unusually contemptuous of and hostile to any suggestion that something might actually be wrong (almost as if there was some sort of mind control in play).
So, a few hours later, the brothers are patrolling the cluster of abandoned warehouses at the epicentre of the ghost outbreak, trading speculation and commiserations. Suddenly, there’s a piercing shriek of terror nearby and a homeless kid comes hurtling around the corner and barrels into Loki, sobbing about ‘the big scary blue man’ they saw.
Loki only has a few seconds to put things together and share a “What?! No, it can’t be…” reaction with Thor, before Laufey’s ghost comes around the corner
