Imagine confiding in Loki about a certain situation that, frankly, is giving you a bad feeling. Not liking the situation, either, he wants to know what he can do to help you.
You shake your head. “Just… let me vent, I guess. I’ll be fine.” You don’t believe your own words.
Neither does Loki. He reminds you that you are his dearest friend and only wants to know for certain that you are safe.
Things escalate and you’re not sure what to do. You double-check that all of your self defense supplies are accounted for and nearby, just in case you have to kick some—
“(Name).”
You jump, only to realize it’s just Loki.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let myself in. It’s just that I knew something was terribly wrong and wanted to check on you.”
“Oh, me? Naaahhhh!! I’m fine!” Your shaking voice tells another story.
“(Name)…”
Truth is, you wouldn’t mind him setting up camp near your place. Even if nothing hits the fan, he would be right there for assurance. Comfort. Just… to know that you have someone close by whom you know you can trust.
“(Name), please. You’re in grave danger. Please let me help you.”
“Don’t be dramatic.” You shrug him off.
“Come to Asgard.”
You roll your eyes. “Not like it’s more danger than usual. I’m an Avenger. I’m used to it.”
“All lies.”
“Excuse me?”
Loki puts his hands under your jaw. “Come to Asgard. I will keep you safe.”
You shove him away. “I’ll be fine!”
As long as that one particular person doesn’t get any ideas about trying something.
You and Loki keep going back-and-forth with each other on the matter.
“It doesn’t have to be forever. Just until—”
“Until when? He drops dead?”
“Until you’re no longer in peril.”
“Well, how long will that be?! I might as well stay here and take my chances instead of just running away.”
Loki doesn’t respond. He just looks at the folded clothes in your hand, then at the half-stuffed luggage you’ve been packing, then at you.
You don’t know what to say anymore. He’s caught you.
“Then where are you going?”
Silence, save for a deep sigh.
“(Name)… Where are you going?”
You throw the clothes into your bag and toss in a toiletry case. “Asgard, I guess.”
imagine that it is the first new year you spend with Loki. The two of you aren’t ones for mingling with the crowds, but you do think the fireworks are pretty, and want Loki to see it. So you find a good, generally quieter spot, and bring Loki there for a nighttime picnic.
It’s just the two of you, sitting side by side, chatting and holding hands. when the fireworks finally start, Loki looks at them in wonder, it being the first time he has ever seen them, and you smile seeing his reaction.

Imagine Loki seeing the same youngster in the palace library nearly every day. He smiles politely and gives a gentle, “Hello.”
The boy ducks his head down and turns around, as if he’s shy.
A feminine voice softly calls the little guy by name. “Where did you run off to?”
He gasps and darts in the direction of the voice.
Loki chuckles to himself at how cute the whole thing is.
After a few similar exchanges, Loki starts sneaking little treats and goodies for the boy. He would hit the roof if anyone else did such a thing, but the kid’s just so adorable.
You are hustling through the library one day, looking in every section. Your focus doesn’t seem to be on the shelves, nor the titles on them.
“Are you expecting a book to leap in front of your face?”
You turn to glare before realizing it’s Loki, then take on a more respectful demeanor. “I’m looking for someone, your Highness. My… my little brother.” You describe him and give his name.

Loki puts his book down and leaps into action to help look for your brother.
You split up, certain he couldn’t have gone far.
Loki finds the child first, lounging on a massive armchair like he owns the place, appearing to read Shakespeare… upside down.
“Do you know how to read, young man?”
Your brother peeks up at Loki and shakes his head no, his cheeks blushing pink.
You keep calling out for your brother, telling yourself he’s going to get an earful when you find him.
Find him, you do! He’s now sharing the armchair with Loki, sounding out Macbeth.
“Never… v… va… van… van… q-qu… qui… sh…”
“Vanquished,” Loki offers.
“Oh.”
“You’re doing just fine.”
“Never vaaanquiiiiiisshhed be, until…”
“There you are!”
You let them finish the scene before telling your little brother that it’s time to turn in.
“That was very sweet of you, teaching him to read. I guess I got so caught up in replacing Mother as the palace librarian that I forgot to teach him why libraries are so crucial in the first place.”
Loki turns to look at you. He vaguely remembers the previous librarian falling ill some time ago. “You’re… her daughter?”
“Yes. (Name). Mother was the librarian, and Father died in battle shortly before my brother was born. When Mother got sick, I was a teenager, and my baby brother was just barely walking.”
“That’s… a lot to ask of someone so young.”
“Well, we manage.”
Loki returns every day, now teaching your brother to read instead of selfishly hiding from his own brother.
After all, the kid needs a good male role model, right?
IMAGINE:Imagine being imprisoned with Loki (Thor: The Dark World) and learning with him during those weeks, months. He slowly learns to accept your company and you learn he's not as bad as others say.

NOTES:
"I have known monsters, faced them both on the battlefield and in the court, you my lady are no monster." Loki tried to tell her, with his lips growing more numb by the second he was beginning to doubt how much she would understand.
"Monsters in the court… like your father?" Her soft voice reached his ears.
"Yes", Loki had lost complete feeling in his now.
"Rest. The next few days will be hell."
"What do you mean, what is going to happen?! Tell me everything!" Loki ordered.
"Stop talking and rest. Besides, it's hard to understand you." A paw tapped Loki's forehead, much to his vexation. When he opened his mouth to reply, a low growl rumbled through the cell.
For a few short hours, Loki and the wolf did get some rest. Just as the guards were beginning their dinner rounds, light flared in the cell. Not just the normal brightness, but a stronger light than Loki had seen in the dungeons before. A low buzzing started with the light. Tossing an arm over his eyes, Loki tried to ignore the over-stimulation. Now it was a waiting game.
The dimming of the lights and a stop to the buzzing had Loki looking up. There was no telling how long it had been. Thor was headed towards his cell. This was not the end to his torment Loki had planned, but perhaps could be used to his advantage. As he sat up, he noticed the large boar Thor carried over his shoulders. With a grunt Thor tossed the boar into the cell. Loki eyed his brother, listening as the wolf sniffed the offering.
"Mother was quite upset to learn father has been torturing the wolf. She has ordered me to hunt for the wolf and has even had half the guards punished for their behavior towards prisoners. Your silver tongue has worked wonders, brother." Thor gave Loki a giant smile.
"It was hardly my words that drove mother to act." Loki muttered, lips still numb. Thor studied his lips as he spoke, the smile disappearing.
"Mother doesn't know your lips were sewn again, does she?" Thor asked softly. The wolf's head perked up at the word again. She studied Loki as Loki turned from Thor to her.
"No Thor. Tell her at your own risk. Odin banished you once, he might do it again… My lady, this is my brother Thor." Loki watched the wolf for her reaction. The wolf huffed at being called 'my lady'.
"She'll be a fine beast once she's properly fed, a good hunting hound I have no doubt. What will you name her?" Thor boomed. The wolf's head whipped in his direction and she began snarling at him.
"Pay him no mind, he's a witless oaf." Loki muttered to the wolf. "She is not mine to name, let alone make any claim to. When she is ready, she will tell me her name. I would advise you to tread carefully brother, Father tried and failed to own this wolf. His failure led to her being imprisoned in the dungeons, not a pen outside like a normal dog." Loki warned. Thor laughed.
"You speak as if she were an equal. Extremely amusing, wolves equal to Asgardians! Take care brother, I shall bring you a book tomorrow." Thor turned and marched away, still laughing.
"As I said, a witless oaf. Enjoy the boar. He may be an idiot, but if mother told him to feed you, the boar will be safe to eat." Loki turned to the wolf. She took a large bite of the boar and watched Loki as she ate it. Once most of the boar was gone, the wolf sighed happily, her tail swishing back and forth. She grabbed the pillow off the bed as she walked past and headed back to her corner. Loki smirked as she lay down, her head resting on the pillow. Thor had unwittingly given him a gift, their exchange had earned him a little trust from the wolf. Now Loki just had to build on it.
"My lady, will you grace me with your name?" The wolf barked and yipped in a surprisingly mocking tone, sounding syllable for syllable like Loki's question. Loki couldn't help it, her response amused him.
The next evening Thor returned with another kill for the wolf and a book for Loki. After Thor left, Loki again asked for her name and again the wolf mocked him. This became their routine, while the torture had stopped, it was clear the wolf didn't trust Loki enough for him to form an escape. Almost one month to the day, something changed.
"My lady, will you grace me with your name?" Loki asked, waiting for the mocking yips. But they didn't come. The wolf made no noise. Loki turned towards the wolf, she was looking at the wall thinking about something. She turned to face him.
