I thought I posted this and even referenced this tidbit but I in fact never did, lol.

In a nutshell, all the Sugars, being clowny, tend to gesticulate a lot but Genk especially does so. It's a way to release emotions and regulate his reactions. It's hard for me to explain via text, but say Genk were very mad... his first instinct is to throw punch or something like that. I think, if he were trying to restrain himself, he'd put all the violent energy into movement that mayhaps is still not appropriate but much less violent. Like stamping his feet, clenching his fists, punching the air, or just outright pretending he's doing whatever he wants to do but with the air (like if he wants to punch someone he'll punch the air, or if he wants to strangle someone he'll mime it, etc.).

In the most subtle ways he deals with his anger, he'll either just move his arms a lot more but in a manner that seems "Normal" or in rare cases he might just do the opposite and not move at all. Usually it's something more like the above.

I think Fragaria is the only one who matches his energy in this regard. But Fragaria's movements tend to be for positive emotions.

Mother's Day Week Day 5: Genk's Mom

Late because I was at work and I have a mild case of I can only do one thing a day. Anyways...

Miss Ichou is a very serious woman who should be in her office but finds herself in the principal's office more often than not. While she chose to raise Genk personally, she is mostly interested in his grades and sculpting him into a decent member of the family. Honestly, she should have just let someone else raise him.

She often wonders why she had to be saddled with such a disgrace. While she quickly put Genk in therapy for his troubled behaviour, her lack of being able to see/treat her son with any kind of grace makes it nearly worthless. She had nannies take care of Genk while she spent the majority of her day working. She rarely talks to her son about anything that isn't concerning school, work, his behaviour, her disappointment, or her expectations. Although she hopes he can "get his act together", she largely no longer cares about what happens to her son before he even turns ten. She sees her husband as only a business partner and envies that he was able to return to the city without issue. Only to save pride and face did she bother to stick around. However, following the incident with Bobbert, she finally decides that enough is enough and like Star's mom, only shows up occasionally to check on her son. Leaving him as a sort of emancipated minor. She does not send letters or call him on her own accord. She definitely does not acknowledge him in adulthood. Rather cruelly, she would say his greatest achievement was not ending up dead in a ditch before he hit twenty, really he was lucky to be born at all, especially to such a noble family while being so ignoble himself.

Like Genk, her theme is ginkgo leaves. She cares more about her job and reputation than anything else. She has little room in her heart for anything. While she does, eventually, answer Genk's calls and mail should he send them, it's very clear from her responses she only does so not to seem petty rather than because she wants to or because she cares about Genk. A one sentence response in the mail is all he can expect.

This isn't Bobbert's post but since we're talking about her, she doesn't like them very much. While they are sort of the type of kid they'd like, quiet and smart, she dislikes them as Genk's friend because they enabled his bad behaviour and she noticed... things about Bobbert that made her distrust them around Genk. Of course, it's more so that the things they did disturbed her that she tried to separate them than out of real concern for Genk. Which is why ultimately nothing really happened to their friendship. She found their "crimes" icky while not really caring about the victim themself. Anyways, enough vague posting, this is not about that.

In terms of design I am def gonna adjust the colors. She feels too much like mustard right now. I didn't want her to seem to... bright and thus happy but mustard isn't a nice color amongst the pop colors of everyone else.

Some lore and ideas based on that lore.

I never explained yet but all my OCs for this project aren’t human. They are probably more comparable to the cookies in cookie run kingdom than any earthly creature (well mammal ones anyway). I sort of think of them as the sugar/sweets version of the gems from Land of the Lustrous (probably not entirely true but whatever).

They are called Sugar Folk.

In any case, these weird, sweet/flower themed clown giants have some quirky anatomy traits and for this post I’ll be taking about their scents.

Most sugar folk have a scent unless they have some sort of disorder, specific family, or something else.

Example:

Star comes from the sugar crystal family and they don’t have a specific scent aside from “sweet/sugar” unless that particular person has inherited a scent from their non sugar crystal parent. Beck’s side of the family has strawberry/fruit scents because they mixed with berry scented folk pretty often back in the day. They are the hard candy (fruit edition) side of the crystal family.

All sugar folk smell sweet however so Star doesn’t really smell like anything aside from “normal”.

The intensity of the scent can vary and can change depending a variety of reasons (age, health, etc.). Some people only have a scent as if they sprayed on light perfume or they can smell like a whole ass bakery hit you.

TLdR: All Sugar Folk have a scent and unless they are straight up scentless, will also have an underlying sugary scent to them.

Bobbert is a unique case where they don’t have a scent at all. I thought about the fact that when they were younger, they would have spent so much time with Genk, their childhood friend, they likely started to smell like him.

I am thinking about the implications of it. For most sugar folks, it’s pretty normal to have other scents on you unless you only hang out around your family or your friends happen to smell like you. It’s kind of a sign of friendship or at least literal closeness what extra scents you have on you. These scents probably don’t linger for longer than a day and of course the intensity of the two Sugars scents to begin with will affect scent sharing. As well as clothing, bathing, lotions, etc.

In terms of what this means for Bobbert and Genk, I thought at first it might be like "aw, you smell like each other, how romantic" but then I realised Bobbert doesn't smell like anything and by pure chance dresses kinda similar to the ginkgo family and then I was like... "Or maybe everyone is gonna think they're related, omg?".
