Class In Session is a series of selections to provide the most sophisticated black music around the globe!

Last year, in September we released the 3rd volume selecting some hot pieces by prominent artists like Van Hunt,Dwele,DJ Cam,The Roots,The Stuyvesants among others.

After five months we are back with the 4th installment and we suggest you to take note and update your own music collection with this brand new gathering of supa-classy masterpieces hanging in the balance between hip-hop,jazz and soulful sonorities.

YELLOWTAIL FEAT. SARAH WHITE – DARK SOUL (NEO TOKYO EDIT)

Japanese native and Brooklyn based producer Yellowtail is a valid choice if you are fans of downtempo,broken beat and future soul music. Like other mastermind DJs/producers like Jazzanova,Domu,4Hero and Benji B , Hiro Awanohara aka Yellowtail impressed us with his remarkable and  sophisticated approach to music. One of the most renowned “music selector” like Giles Peterson included Yellowtail music on his acclaimed first installment of Brownswood Bubble series and today we spread Yellowtail’s last effort titled Darksoul dropped last month via Campus Music Recordings. Mr. Yellow recruited the eclectic,warm and eargasmic voice of Sarah White. Don’t sleep on it!

PHANTOM THRETT – WONDERFOOL (PRODCUED BY LOOP.HOLES)

We met Michael Adame aka Phantom Thrett last year in March, when we reviewed his top-notch project Broken Winter. The talented California singer/songwriter/rapper joined his skills with beatmaking collective Loop.Holes cooking a tasteful work that oozes mellow beats. If you miss the superlative project, we give you the chance to hear something appealing and classy titled Wonderfool. We also recommend you the collaboration with Waju for the tune titled Look Of Love ,the downtempo joint with Repeated Measures called Andromeda’s Not Far Away and the collabo with prodcuer IAMNOBODI and Los Angeles artist KR for the joint Dearly Beloved.

MOONCHILD – BE FREE (DJ JAZZY JEFF AND JAMES POYSER REMIX)

Moonchild‘s music is the perfect example how a balanced blend of smooth jazz and neo-soul can sound so intimate and refined. During these years we exposed Moonchild works on several neo-soul and jazz selections like So Soulful,Jazz On Da Block,Da Jazz Season and Creole Love Call. The talented group earned postive reviews with their debut masterpiece Be Free and with the sophomore album Please Rewind they confirm their enticing production. Here you are something for demanding audience, it’s a remix version of Be Free handled by veteran producers James Poyser and DJ Jazzy Jeff (recently involved into Dayne Jordan project. MARK de CLIVE LOWE FEAT. OVASOUL 7 – EVERYTHING

 Musician.composer and producer Mark de Clive-Lowe appeared on a lot of selections: The Block Is Hot,Stay Mellow 3,Da Groove. In September 2013 we also paid tribute to Mark with the selection Masters At Work alongside masterminds like Richard Earnshaw,Positive Flow,Kan Sano,Liquid Spirits among others. Last year the multi-talented artist dropped the eclectic refined project titled Church exploring afro-beat,jazz,future soul but today we stay focus on the project titled Renegades released in 2011 via U.K label Tru Thoughts. Press play and enjoy yourself listening to the track titled  Everything with the collaboration of Los Angeles singer Ovasoul 7 (we met him on Groovin’ Errday and Songs In A Mellow Mood).

KADHJA BONET  - LATENIGHT MUNCHIES (PRODUCED BY RJ AND MARK MAXWELL)

Sit back and relax beacuse Los Angeles songstress Kadhja Bonet is ready to make your mind & soul floating with her supa-smooth tune titled Latenight Munchies. The track is included on Red Bull Music Academy – Various Assets Tokyo 2014 and it’s produced by Berlin based producer RJ and australian Mark Maxwell.

I.N.T FEAT. MAR – CHRISTMAS LADY

Back in 2011 when dutch DJ/producer/beatmaker and emcee Percy Samidjono aka I.N.T dropped the project Christmas Wonderland Volume 2 . In order to spolight the talent of this interesting artist we selected the sterling production of Christmas Lady enhanced with the eargasmic voice of stellar dutch performer Mar (make sure you to check out his impressive masterpieces Form,Seeing Her Naked and Conversations With Her)

INNOSPHERE – RUN TO THE SUN

Put together Nina Rae’s musical background imbued with Motown and jazz standards and the infinite talent of multi-instrumentalist,composer and producer Kenny Keys and here you are the sophisticated music by Innosphere. Their opus titled Shine represents a must have for everyone who loves soulful hip-hop beats flecked with jazzy and nu-soul sonorities. Frankly we consider Shine by Innosphere one of the best album of the last decade and to celebrate the fantastic work we chose the superb tune titled Run To The Sun. Innosphere appeared on neo-soul selection Groove Easy. Make sure you to purchase the project via iTunes

GENO YOUNG – THROW YO HANDS (ODE TO RESPONSIBLE HIP-HOP)

Singer, songwriter and producer Geno Young is the genius able to cook a brilliant masterpiece like Ghetto Symphony a neo-soul album released in 2004. We look at this great opus with the same  reverence of classic albums like Baduizm,Voodoo,Who Is Jill Scott?,Luvanmusiq.All songs included on Ghetto Symphony are of high quality and so smooth.We selected many joints by Geno Young included on several selections like The Urban Theme,Strictly A Vibe Thang and Stay Mellow 2. ERIC LAU FEAT. RAHEL – I’M FINE

U.K producer Eric Lau delighted our audience with his remarkable and sumptuous productions included on On Deck and Masters At Work , we also spotlighted his quality projects Love Call EP and One Of Many. Today we selected the epic jazzy sound of the track titled I’m Fine. It’s a simply amazing collaboration with U.K singer/songwriter Rahel Dessalegne (she worked alongside prominent artists like Mark de Clive-Lowe,Georgia Anne Muldrow) who unveils a vocal prowess that caress your soul. This finely crafted tune is included on Brownswood Bubblers compilation.

ELECTRIC WIRE HUSTLE – WATERS

New Zeland outfit Electric Wire Hustle consisting of trained instrumentalists and beatmakers Mara TK,Myele Manzanza and Taay Ninh hit the music scene like an earthquake in 2010 with their groundbreaking self-titled album. The excellent album oozes avant-garde sonorities as you can see peeping out the visual of Perception. We selected their classy gem titled Waters. Last year Electric Wire Hustle dropped the EP If These Are The Last Days

Peven Everett – One More Again

Peven Everett represents class, multitasking talent as well as a learned explorer of a wide palette of genres. He moved  his first steps into jazz music (studying at Berkley and taking lessons by Wynton Marsalis) and touring with Buckshot Le Fonque (that appeared on Speaking In Keys and Neo-Soul Perspective ). Peven Everett earned his stripes thanks his pechant to play a diversified range of genres like soulful house,house,funky  as well as neo-soul. We selected a compelling and mellow tune titled One More Again from his album Kaleidoscope.

Liv Warfield – I Decided

On Neo-Soul Theory we showcased the music by Illinois neo-soul songstress, Liv Warfield. Liv impressive vocal skills enraptured a soul legend like Prince, that recruited her as vocalist of his group New Power Generation alongside Shelby J and Elisa Fiorillo. With an icon like Prince as  mentor, she started to step renowned stages like North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2006 Liv Warfield released her debut album titled Embrace Me . Wow, if you believe in us, you won’t be a bit disappointed with the great vibes included on this neo-soul record. We chose, the wonderful and warm groove of the single titled I Decided.

Kwesi – Before We Get Busy 

After a short experience playing hip-hop music under the moniker of Sunchilde releasing the album titled University, British singer Kwesi delivered quality neo-soul music, launching his project called Testimony,following in the footstep of Al Green tipical sonority but with much more groove. We guarantee an uplifting experience with his sumptuos masterpiece titled Before We Get Busy , permeated with jazz,swing and soul. Kwesi appeared on The Remix Session Vol.2

Jordan Rakei – Hope

Brisbane performer/musician/songwriter Jordan Rakei is unmistakably one of the most interesting talent of the black music scene. His debut project titled Franklin’s Room  produced by Nathan Seiler is a best seller on Bandcamp. Jordan music represents a fresh breath with a thoughtful approach that combines reggae music ( he’s a great fan of Bob Marley!) and neo-soul smooth groovy (he is influenced by D’Angelo music). We highlighted his brilliant music on Stay Mellow and we will continue to spread his music for years to come! Today we selected the track titled Hope. Trained musician,breathtaking voice…..ladies and gentleman this is Jordan Rakei.

Jarrard Anthony – Candy

The magic touch of neo-soul crooner Jarrard Anthony , delighted our audience on Sweet Bitter Love and today we focus again our attention on his sick album titled Decade Of Dreams . Jarrard style crosses conventional boundaries blending neo-soul melodies and jazz .Let your body floating with the track titled Candy.

Hil St Soul – Don’t Forget The Ghetto

If you are a scratchtheblock.com aficionado, maybe the voice of Zambia native neo-soul songstress Hil St Soul will be not unfamiliar. She represents one of our fave choice about nu-soul female singer and we can assert she can collocated alongside other modern soul epic voices like Jill Scott, India Arie,Angie Stone,Lalah Hathaway and Leela James. Heston – Coming Home

Dominican born, Atlanta based musician/composer/songwriter/singer  Heston mesmerized us with his delectable vocal prowess and his mood music. We put our hands on his outstanding album titled Love Junkie and we have admit it has been  the beginning  of a touching journey into romantic ballads and soulful tunes. For this record,Heston took advantage of the soaring production of DJ Kemit for two tracks !!! Check out the track titled Coming Home

Geno Young – Honeydew

Born and raised in Texas , Geno Young is surely a buzz-worthy neo-soul artist, although he represents much more than a performer. As competent and talented producer he collaborated with Erykah Badu (on her masterpiece Mama’s Gun for the tracks , Times A Wastin and Orange Moon ) , Carmen Rodgers ( Free ),N’Dambi. Geno appeared on our selections Stay Mellow 2 and The Urban Theme . We chose his best track and one of our favourite neo-soul gem titled Honeydew from the acclaimed album The Ghetto Symphony

Fatima – Mind (Produced by Floating Points)

Swedish neo-soul/r&b singer Fatima Bramme Sey started to cement her name when he moved to London and joined with producer/DJ/composer Sam Sheperd known with the stage name Floating Points. The fruitful partnership delivered to the world some compelling works like Follow You and EP released under Eglo Records . Take a look to the vibrant melodies of the single called Mind. Recently , Fatima released her LP titled Yellow Memories

Anam Owili Eger – The Moment

Philly gifted musician/singer Anam Owili Eger is what you need!!! Now, as a fan of a lot of different genres, I find myself listening to a lot of R&B/Soul. Recently, when looking up new artists , I came across a neo-soul artist from Texas named Geno Young. The song I first listened to was Honeydew. From the start, the music really relaxed me and put me in a daze. Then, when the vocals came in, I was in a groove. I hope Honeydew puts you in a daze like it did for me.
