See, it’s not the Hannibal convention per se, this is just Hugh Dancy’s life.
If you’re gonna take a role as the inventor of the vibrator, you just gotta own that shit.

Fresh Meat Friday
This @freshmeatfriday isn’t really fresh. In fact, it is two years old and has been cooking on low-temperature ever since! But because it’s recently been finished, with just the right tenderness and flavour resulting in a fantastic read, today’s a good chance to rec “Black Swan” by @genufa and tell everyone who hasn’t read it yet to stop what they are doing and go over to AO3 asap! I mean, guys, Hannibal is a majestic af black swan. What more do you want?
For me, this is the fic equivalent to Hatoful Boyfriend. In case you don’t know it (and you probably don’t): it’s a game where you, as a human character, date birds. And you start playing it for the lulz, because what a ridiculous concept right? Turns out it is hilarious, but it has also quite a bit of depth, and a twist or two, and feels. It is just the same with this fic: it uses the show’s characters creatively and still manages to stay true to them, it is well written, there’s a weirdly erotic dream sequence where Will grinds into feathers and... ummm... yeah. Sold yet?
This fic has basically been around since I’ve joined the fandom, and I’m both happy to see it finished and sad to see Swannibal go. Give this beautiful sous-vide dish some love! Let’s just hope it’s not swan...

I don’t get it. Know this song well and don’t see Will envying Hanni from in Apperitif, as the lyrics imply…
The lyrics aren’t very subtle so I didn’t take them at face value - Will would never moan about how bad he has it, heh. After what Brian Reitzell did in S2-3, even the instrumental theme used at the end of Aperitif seems a little too tame, never mind this sad song with its sad lyrics :p but somehow it gets you in a Will Graham mood, which is probably why it was stuck in Hugh’s head. Or maybe it’s the other way around, it got me in a Will Graham mood after I heard it inspired Hugh. I guess the sense I get from it is of being so tired of the inside of your own head you want to not be yourself for a while, and of longing for relief.

You’re welcome, I’ve been wondering if I should do a survival guide for next year and I think I’ll go ahead with that although it will mean having to repeat myself :p

What an odd notion - you think Bryan can write about trauma for three seasons and not know he’s writing about trauma? That he can map out this Miriam Lass storyline I mentioned somehow without realizing what it means? xD

Thanks for the rec :D it was really something. You mentioned wondering how the whole place was still standing at all, I mostly wondered how it breathes so well considering how cramped and overloaded it is.
@apoptoses replied to your post “RDC3”
oooh, you went to Sir John Soane’s! I hope you got to see a rake’s progress while you were there, I had to hang around forever until there were enough people in the room to open that set of walls.
We got lucky! A guide was preparing to open the extra set of walls for a large group of visitors when we got to that room.
@genufa not only wrote me a fic (Vanishing Point, which causes me to scream like a rubber goose), she also sent me a package in the mail! Which I couldn’t get to right away, as I haven’t been home, but today I finally had the opportunity to open it. It contained copious amounts of tea, incense sticks, a tiny Hannibal stocking (now I have to get a Will one!), an excellent holiday card, thematic postcards, MADS’ FACE, and--most impressively--an origami heart. XD Thank you so much!!!
My gift bag of goodies for my Hannigram Holiday Exchange giftee @genufa
It includes:
a handmade Lecter mask charm
chocolates that come with their suggested wine pairing
some glitterly antlery ornaments
butcher knife earrings
a magnet with a quote from Julia Child
This was just the physical part of the gift. The second part, the fic, is called I Saw One Ship Come Sailing In and you can read it in the collection over on AO3
For my Secret Santa @genufa. Christmas Fluff with the Murder Husbands!
I Saw One Ship Come Sailing By
“Tomorrow is Christmas,” Hannibal said as he cleared the dinner dishes.
“Yup,” Will said, taking a quick sip of his too-hot after dinner coffee and scalding his tongue.
It was the day before Christmas, and Will hadn’t eaten one holiday cookie or heard one carol. He and Hannibal’s cabin was tucked away and so insulated from society that, for once, Will had the opportunity to opt out of the holiday. He did so happily. The irony was not lost on Will that he was up in the mountains, rejecting Christmas while the townspeople below made merry. But he was no Grinch. If anything, his heart was too big, and too easily bruised.
After dinner, instead of taking his own coffee in to drink with Will, Hannibal shrugged on his coat and went outside to stand on the porch. He put both hands in his pockets and gazed pensively at the tree line ahead. It reminded him of the forest around Muskrat farm. The Arachne of his imagination made a snip, taking out a bit of the unpleasantness that followed, and the scene of him carrying Will away from the blood and horror of the Verger estate blended seamlessly into this moment. Hannibal carried him away and Will promised they’d stay together. Merry Christmas.
As if his thoughts called Will, he came out on to the porch, too, still pulling his cap down over his hair. Hannibal was pale with cold, his nose and tips of his ears pink. He was wearing a nicely draped black scarf, Will noticed, but no hat and no gloves.
Will thought about asking him to come in from the cold, but then he thought better of it. Hannibal could stay like this all night, silently standing sentry and still be in the kitchen cooking pancakes at first light. Instead of trying to get him to come inside, Will stood near him, leaning on the porch railing and gazing at the same tree line. He did not think of Muskrat Farm. He thought about Christmas. The scene before them could have been the picture on the front of a Christmas card: a stretch of virgin snow with more falling, heavily loaded evergreens, oaks and maples stripped of their leaves standing as dramatic dark slashes, all suffused in the blue light of a winter sunset. He was happy to be here, in the woods, with Hannibal. He didn’t need anything else. He didn’t want anything else.

while I’m in denial that my stay with @after-the-ellipsis in NYC is over and that I’m back in Maryland, here is a short list of delightful happenings over the week:
- we dropped in on the fabulous @rawfanzine launch party and met so many fannibals!! including the lovely @genufa whom we hunted down and quizzed about her fic wish list & other ficcish things
- seriously there were some stunning outfits at the launch party, goddamn y’all. we were overwhelmed and delighted by the infectious fandom energy~!
- I took a peek at the book and it is stunning and packed with fic I’m dying to read once my copy arrives!
- we saw the Crucible on Broadway and witnessed tiny Ben Whishaw toss school girls onto the ground and suggestively straddle them into submission (including tiny Saoirse Ronan)
- feelings were had over Jorah Mormont’s feelings during a GoT watch because we are soft
- at some point I was coerced (coerced I tell you!) into staying until weds to see Gillian in Streetcar on tues night (ok it was an easy sell)
- while in the standby line for Streetcar tickets we learned that our generation is the new Greatest Generation and that we are going to Save The World, according to our new line friend
- according to reliable sources Gillian *totally* winked in our direction during curtain call *for sure*
- on the way home we were nearly spirited away into a hidden fairy-lit garden but resisted and got a taxi & donuts instead
many many thanks to Livy, seriously the most patient and generous host. this weekend was further proof that the hannibal fandom is wonderful, welcoming and still hungry - I’m so grateful we got to attend the launch party and become reinvigorated with fannibal enthusiasm!
Right now reading/About to read:
took a bit of a bronchitis-related hiatus, but i’m back! YAY!
Last Four Years by damnslippyplanet
Will and Hannibal have finally (finally!) managed to get together in the same time and place, without anyone trying to shoot at them or arrest them. Which doesn't necessarily mean anything about navigating their new life together is going to be easy. There might still be one or two tiny little issues left to work out.
Other than a little flash-forward at the very beginning, this follows on linearly picking up right after the previous chunk of story, What We Talk About When We Talk About Blood. It's not absolutely essential to have read that one first, though.

Your memory palace is building. It's full of new things. It shares some rooms with my own. I've discovered you there. Victorious." —Hannibal, 3.07 "Digestivo"
After the attack at Hogsmeade, Hannibal Lecter's fate hangs uncertain as time ticks low towards trial and sentence - Verger money intervening for the worst at every turn. Without many options open, the unorthodox looms tempting. Still, it's important to remember nothing is ever as easy as it seems... and sometimes sacrifice is necessary for gain. But if there's anything we know, it's that neither Will nor Hannibal are ready to give the other up without a fight.
Hogwarts AU. This is part of a multi-fic series, we update twice a week. Read from the beginning here!

“Let me come with you,” is all the boy says.
“You will be useless to me.”
“I will hardly be useless,” Will exclaims. “I have a pony and a sword, good wits about me and a dog’s sense of direction. I will guide us home if we get lost.”
A fairytale imagining of one Will Graham, from the series Patpong. We highly recommend you read that series first.
