People used to see the internet as a fun distraction from their real lives.
It seems nowadays more and more people see their internet selves as the true self and real life as a mandatory task to afford their internet selves.
I guess that's what the zoomer stare is, that's why people generally don't talk to strangers anymore. Real life's a drag, it's not worth spending effort in your job or your irl contacts because it's not the life that matters to people anymore, the internet is.
