Somehow our first haunting story of the year not related to the Heartland Ghost, we're off to San Diego's Whaley House, built in 1857 & a museum since 1960, after a long life in roles as diverse as a general store and a courthouse.

It's also haunted. Unlike the vast, vast majority of famous haunted houses, the tragic incidents in this house's history are largely verifiable historic events.

“Residual haunting is sort of like a shadow imprinted on the fabric of time. Somehow it leaves an impression, a photograph if you will, in an environment that replays and replays over and over again. The Whaley House has been visited by many TV shows, from Ghost Adventures to Buzzfeed Unsolved to Regis Philbin visiting on live TV in 1964. And why wouldn't it be? It's a haunted house with an actual, proven group of dead rich people to point to, instead of claiming a Victorian girl totally died there in the 18-whenevers. If it's good enough for Regis, it's good enough for you.
