Did you know that the second week of November is Geography Awareness Week?
This week, we’re encouraged to take more interest in our surroundings, how we impact them, and the impact our surroundings have on us.
This artist’s book follows Tripp’s Run, a stream that originates near I-66 in Fairfax County, Virginia, near Washington, DC. It runs above and below ground for approximately five miles before draining into Lake Barcroft, and ultimately the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. (excerpt from “Channel & Flow.”)
“Channel and Flow” was published by the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY. Sarah McDermott made this book in the spring of 2014.
Channel & flow. McDermott, Sarah [artist, author] Rosendale, NY : Women's Studio Workshop, 2014. 36 unnumbered pages (some folded) : color illustrations ; 16 cm
"Channel and Flow documents an attempt to follow a stream on its path through a dense suburban neighborhood. It uses the structure of the book's page turns and foldouts to represent how the stream has been contained and fragmented by the built environment."--Women's Studio Workshop website, http://www.wsworkshop.org/artists-books/new-artists-books-from-wsw/, viewed on July 3, 2014.
