WELCOME TO THE ATLANTIS GEORGIAS BRACKET: ROUND 1

I wanted to call it "The Cup of Water," but I wasn't sure if that would be as clear.

Since it's March Madness, and the people of Tumblr have fallen in love with making brackets for pretty much anything, it's time we settle once and for all who the most popular Georgias player is. Sixty-four will enter, but only one can win. (Since there have only ever been sixty-one Georgias players who have seen active play, however, three NPCs have been picked to fill in the remaining slots.)

The bracket was largely seeded based on how I perceived each player's popularity to be within the Georgias' fanbase (with some margin of error), but anyone is allowed to participate in voting! Simply vote for whichever player in each matchup you like more, and winners will proceed to Round 2!

GEORGIAS BRACKET: THE FINALS

Everything has led up to this. The people have spoken. The finalists for the Georgias Bracket are Rigby Friedrich and Niq Nyong'o, two of the most beloved Georgias players of all time. Both are fan-favorites, but only one can be the winner.

Let's meet our contestants!

RIGBY FRIEDRICH

If you're looking for a star Georgias player, then look no further than Rigby Friedrich. From the very moment the Georgias Descended, Rigby Friedrich was already a good pitcher, but the Infuse shortly afterwards would turn Rigby into a star.

For the entire Expansion Era, there was hardly ever a question who the best Player on the Georgias was. In his very first year, he had an ERA of 2.30, and he consistently kept to that standard, only going above 3.00 in Season 20. In his second year, he pitched a perfect game on the very first day of the season, a feat he would accomplish again just before the end of the world in Season 24.

Of course, Rigby was not just a good pitcher. Rigby was a good everything, if his brief batting career was any indication. In Season 22, he managed an OPS of 1.081, and successfully stole 93 bases (as opposed to the only four times he was caught stealing). It's probably telling that when Rigby Friedrich suffered a bad peanut allergy in Season 17, that he was still a damn good player.

There's no question to the impact Rigby has left on Georgias team culture. To this very day, fans call the first day of every Season "Rigby Day" in his honor, even though he's not even on the team anymore. And that respect is probably earned, given Rigby has shown us he is not afraid to make an eclipse game last for a long, long time if it means winning a game. Thankfully, Rigby has never struggled with that. This is a player that can single-handedly make the Expansion Era Georgias look good.

Despite many close calls, Rigby has shown us he'll stop at nothing to win, making it all the way to the finals. Will this poll be any different? We'll have to see, but remember...

He is coming.

NIQ NYONG'O

Georgias fans have always shown a lot of love towards our formerly dead former captain. I mean, how could we not? As the lead-off hitter of our OG lineup, she was literally the first Georgias player ever. The only time the Georgias have ever had the highest bid on a blessing was when we were doing necromancy on Niq. She's kind of a big deal.

Niq's the kind of person who was always setting examples for the rest of the team. Besides leading our lineup, she was also the first player to score a run on the Georgias, and the first player on the team to party! She was also the first player that died after Sun(Sun) was set, helpfully showing us the harmful environmental impact of players being incinerated well before the Library could. Sure, we'll count that.

Now it's true that Niq has never been our best player – she was always pretty middle-of-the-pack in that regard. But for a team that won as little as the Expansion Era Georgias, arguably the most we wanted was to tell a good story when all was said and done. And in that regard, there's not a lot of players that match Niq. Plenty of players have been good at Blaseball, but only one has redacted a ghost!

It could be argued that Niq is arguably the most important player in all of Georgias lore – which is probably a given when you make her the team captain, the head of research, and the reality anchor. Even then, the amount of players whose narratives have been impacted by Niq is significant. I mean, we had to mention her in like, three other players' posts, and that's not even mentioning how she fits into the lore of Flattery McKinley or Nanci Grackle.

Niq has carried a lot of momentum throughout the Georgias Bracket, handily sweeping every opponent she had up until Flattery McKinley. Will she be able to keep that momentum in the finals?

SON JENSEN: Eighth Fall Ball Georgia. Previously played for the Tacos and Sunbeams as a hitter, but currently on the Georgias as a pitcher. Some would argue she's the best pitcher of our rotation, but most would agree it's Waverly Mori. Still, second place isn't bad. In fan lore, he seems to be the popular pick for Atlantis' current reality anchor.

LADY MATSUYAMA: Seventh Fall Ball Georgia. Has previously played for the Mechanics and Fridays, and played in the ILB Semi-Centennial as a member of the Rising Stars after receiving Ego from the Ego Share blessing. Currently a respectable 4-star batter on the Georgias, marking the start of a long string of good hitters. I've been envisioning her as the team captain, but I'm not sure how popular that interpretation is.

NIQ NYONG'O: Georgias player from Season β12 to Season β20. Was a respectable lead-off hitter during her career on the Georgias. Despite missing four and a half seasons and being a more middling player, she's arguably the most important player in Georgias lore, being the team captain, reality anchor, and head of research during her time here. Died, but she got better. This led to her having a Debt that led to the redactions of a ghost and Mike Townsend, among others, but she got better. FLATTERY MCKINLEY: Georgias player from Season β12 to Season β24. Sim-designated protagonist of the Georgias. Abysmal pitcher, but solid batter, as long as you can get them to stay on the lineup. Always doing weird things in the sim, like Superallergy Fraud, repeatedly taking and placing the Fifth Base, collecting several blood items in a row, or rerolling into the exact same player in the new sim. THE GEORGIAS BRACKET: ROUND 3

Ahoy, and welcome to Round 3 of the Georgias Bracket! Round 2 was full of close calls, with some polls remaining neck-and-neck to the last minute, but when all was said and done, these are the players that came out on top! We're down to our Sweet 16 now, and this round will determine our quarterfinalists! Don't forget to #Vote!

But first, some statistics from Round 2...

Fish Summer was the player with the greatest margin of victory, with 73% of the vote over Juan Murphy! Juan may be number Juan in our hearts, but xe'll have to settle for thirty-second place in the Georgias bracket.

Rigby Friedrich, conversely, had the most narrow margin of victory, barely eking out a win over Siobhan Chark with 51.7% of the vote.

The poll with the most votes was Nanci Grackle vs. Mint Shupe, with 69 votes total. (Nice.) Conversely, the poll with the fewest votes was Norman Muggins vs. Daisuke Witless, with only 29 votes total.

As always, anyone is allowed to participate in voting, whether or not you're familiar with the Georgias (or even Blaseball in general). Ahoy, and welcome to Round 2 of the Georgias Bracket! In Round 1, we saw many dramatic sweeps, but with all the nobodies and NPCs being taken out of contention, matchups are only going to get closer from here! If you want to see your favorites win, don't forget to #Vote!

Congratulations to Niq Nyong'o and Jan Canberra for being the only players to get a clean sweep on their respective polls, with 100% of the votes! NANCI GRACKLE: Georgias player from Season β12 to Season β24, first active in Season β20. Also known as "BIG GRACK". Had a pretty unremarkable career, where he sipped blood, ate a peanut, and then retreated to the shadows. This is contrasted by his extremely remarkable lore, where his force of personality started the tradition of Grackposting, which continues to this day. Currently a pitcher for the Spies.

MINT SHUPE: Georgias player from Season β12 to Season β15. Was our star hitter for all of 35 games, after which she swallowed a peanut and had an allergic reaction. He would later go on to have a successful career on the Lovers, partying back into being a batting star, becoming one of the league's few Base 2 players, and going double Pro on the Grind Rail for a bit. She doesn't have any of that anymore, but she does still have immaculate vibes.
