While I'm looking for a job I've decided to use my spare time to try to build a video game and I have no idea how far I'm going to get but this title screen looks pretty rad so that's something.

The quit button really works, I've basically got a Steam greenlighting in the bag.

Amazing typeface, Amazingly free: Geotica, Jos Buivenga. 

While carrying out a little typeface research yesterday I spotted the above letterpress image on Instagram. It's a recent piece of work from Estudio Carimbo (@estudiocarimbo) in Sao Paolo. The typeface is Geotica by Jos Buivenga based in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

I was instantly taken with the simplicity of the glyphs especially when presented in this beautifully crafted way. The whole concept behind this typeface was precisely that: "a font built out of -more or less- simple geometrical line elements. The open wire frame could then be left open or (partially) filled."

Jos Buivenga started drawing his first typeface Delicious in 1994, in his evenings and weekends, away from his old job as Art Director of an advertising agency. He shared the first drawings online as he went, then releasing the font free to his followers and eventually set up his foundry exljbris . Jos's first commercial typeface, Museo, was released in 2008 through MyFonts and is one of his most famous and widely used. It's also available free in several weights. 

Geotica was released 18 months ago and comes full of swashes, ligatures and ornaments. Again, the majority of weights are available free. What are you waiting for?
