England 🏴 Vs Germany 🇩🇪: Post Match Analysis
[A/N: Apologies that this is later than usual , I didn’t get back from London till 6am this morning and then proceeded to sleep for the whole day 🤷🏻♀️😂]
Well what a match ... The better team won and rightfully deserved to do so and from a neutral perspective, Germany were very entertaining to watch. That was just hard to appreciate at the time.
The way the team played almost seemed like the defence and midfield had two entirely different ideas of how England were meant to be playing. The lack of cohesion was shocking and to be playing like that against a strong opposition im surprised the score line wasn’t more in favour of the Germans.
My standout players for this match had to be Earps, Greenwood, Henp and Bronze.
Mary Earps had a cracking game and her saves were vital for keeping England still in with a chance. She provided a solid point at the back that could be relied upon to settle down play after German attacks.
Alex Greenwood proved the point that I’ve been saying and showed why she deserved a starting place. She’s developed massively in a short space of time and was able to make vital tackles, help build up the attack and also wasn’t afraid to push up the pitch and get involved which was refreshing to see.
Lauren Hemp injection of pace down the left wing opens play up for England. She had some well placed balls and her link up play with Taylor was excellent. Her dribbling ability helped England move up the pitch and I feel like she made more of an impact in the little time she was on the pitch than Parris did for the whole duration she was on.
And last but not Least we come to Lucy Bronze. Helped keep the defence on check when things started to get shaky, was pushing up the pitch and making runs and she wasn’t afraid to get involved. When Bronze is on the ball you can tell the team are confined to in her abilities but the team then need to be helping her and moving for the next pass so her efforts don’t go to waste.
As for the rest of the team, there were good pieces of play occasionally from some players and it was nice to see Ellen White back on the score sheet but otherwise I feel like the team weren’t making an effort. A controversial opinion but I believe that players like Taylor and Scott are struggling to perform at a top international level especially against teams like Germany and Neville needs to release this. Players need to not be included through loyalty but included in the team because they deserve a spot and I feel like other players deserved that spot. The amount of times that Scott gave away possession with poorly placed passes was shocking and shouldn’t be happening at this level.
Play was flat at times and the ball was passed back to Earps way too many times. Earps was being relied upon way too much and she kept trying to build up play but the ball wa slushed back down to her. Players need to be getting into space and moving up because our slow style of gently building up play never works out well for us.
The Parris penalty was unfortunate. She actually had a decent amount of power on the ball and it’s better than some of her previous attempts however the German keeper made a cracking save . From a psychological perspective, Parris is going to continue to struggle with penalties for the time being so it’s time for a change . People need to step up as penalties are normally a certain way to get a goal and it’s very difficult for keepers to save good ones so we need a new penalty taker. Possible options could be White or Nobbs.
The German team had 21 shots whereas England only had 6. Players need to start shouting whenever an opportunity arises instead of trying to force the ball as close to the goal as possible because it’s being taken off us and leading to missed chances.
Corners also need some work. Alex Greenwood has a killer of a left foot but just needs to tone it down abit so the ball can be injected into danger areas instead of being a waster corner and flying over the heads of everybody.
Hopefully the players can get themselves together for the next match on Tuesday. Another win would really help team motivation and restore some confidence and belief into the squad.
Interested to hear any of your thoughts and have a discussion about this 👍🏻
man var is making mad like why is it even there if it does nothing? sweden’s second goal shouldn’t have counted bc before the goal happened there was actually a foul on a german player.. also that one foul on popp which didn’t end up as foul (it wasn’t offside btw) should have been a penalty like sweden’s goalie jumps out and hits her head instead of the ball, y!kes
