‘Do the stars gaze back?’ Now that’s a question.

“You glitter now and then,” Geralt said, shaking himself dry as he crawled out of the water. The shine began to fade as the star’s laughter died out and he resumed breathing, having forgotten how briefly when Geralt smacked into the side of the trunk. It really was a powerful current.

“Oh, how very miraculous. How marvelous! A true mystery that,” the star pontificated, every word dripping sarcasm. He chuckled once more before the light dimmed. He looked almost ordinary when composed—almost a man again. But his smile was still just as bright.

The star offered Geralt a hand, pulling him the rest of the way up. “Let’s see,” he said, “if you’ve studied as well as those witchers of old. Answer me this: what do stars do?”

Geralt flipped his wet hair at the man’s face to hear him yelp. “I don’t know. Attract trouble?” he suggested.

The chuckling star brightened once more and gave a playful cry as he almost went over the other side of the log, but Geralt caught him, laughing, and they both fumbled their way across. Between all their shoving, Geralt nearly fell in the water again before the end.

“Do I get another guess?” Geralt asked. He pretended to think, then said, “Is it that they know exactly how to annoy a man called Geralt of Rivia?”

I heard your note, and, yes, you’re right, maybe real adventures would make better stories. And you, sir, smell chock-full of them. Amongst other things.

Witcher Story Prompt

We all know of Witcher Jaskier stories but I think people should have more fun with the idea of other Witcher schools.

Like instead of Jaskier being turned into a wolf Witcher or viper Witcher, I think we should go wild.

Like school of the mouse, parrot or the penguin.

Of course you may be going what would the reason these schools would exist (other than it would be fun to read), well:

Mice:

* good hearing,

* good at climbing

* good agility

* can fall down a height of 12 feet without injuring themselves.

* can communicate to each other with ultrasonic sounds

* Also the grasshopper mouse is immune to scorpion venom.

And for specific Jaskier things mice are:

* very talkative,

* are know to sing to win over mates

* a group of mice are know as a mischief.

This is an example but what I am saying is all animals have cool things about them that could be adapted.

Anyway hope this inspires some new stories.

Yeah I am not any time soon getting over:

- the fact that Jaskier keeps calling and referring to Geralt by name, even in the first day of their acquaintance, when he’s only a teenager and Geralt is still (in Joey Batey’s words) “a business opportunity”, rather than what he will come to feel for him later. He sees him absolutely and entirely as a person first, witcher second. Geralt does Not Get That from people, especially not from non-magical humans, and I love it.

- however little of a monkeys Jaskier thinks Geralt gives about him, however unrequited the loyalty seems to be, it’s an illusion. Geralt cares about Jaskier *so much*. I mean, he’s sometimes got a ridiculously funny way of showing it, but the sheer desperation of Geralt’s search for a cure for the djinn problem is... oh goodness. Jaskier, of course, is out of it for most of that. He doesn’t see Geralt’s willingness to do fucking *anything* to save Jaskier’s life (and voice). He doesn’t see Geralt grieving at the possibility of losing him. He doesn’t see those fond little smiles that he hides when Jaskier’s looking. Geralt never lets Jaskier see how much he cares.

- which of course makes the mountain scene so much more devastating, because *we* can see that this is an out-of-character moment for Geralt, that he is lashing out and lying to both of them. But Jaskier, however much he knows and sees Geralt in general, and trusts that on some level Geralt likes him, has never been in a position to see how much he cares. Geralt’s gone out of his way to make sure he hasn’t been. He knows that Geralt’s in pain and that that’s why he’s being so unfair and cruel, but he *doesn’t* know - not for certain, anyway - that it’s not an accurate reflection of Geralt’s real feelings. OH GODS that hurts.

- also in the mountain scene: there are so many emotions, so many subtle microexpressions chasing over Jaskier’s face, because Joey Batey is fricking amazing. But one of them (not that I’ve studied gifs of the scene in detail or anything ;-) ) is compassion. It’s fleeting, but it’s there. Geralt’s breaking Jaskier’s heart, and one of the first reactions the latter has is sheer sympathy for the pain that led him to do it. <3 <3 <3

And even through and after that lashing-out, he’s still not scared of Geralt. Not even a little. And the last word he says to him before he heads off - the last word he says in season 1 - is “Geralt”.

Okay so

I JUST FINISHED THE WITCHER!!! (In like a day haha oops)

I may be posting and reblogging things about the Witcher now, hope you don’t mind. (read: I will be screaming about Geraskier to anyone who will listen) 

um anyway I need more content now so if you have some blogs that post at least occasionally about the Witcher that would be nice! (Also @jaskiers-sweetkiss I will be raiding your blog to find Witcher stuff and also just because you’re really cool :))
