Contact is made with a newly space exploring world.
This world is inhabited by Pokemon. The Pokémon are delighted to be introduced to all these new people to be friends with.
The original humanoid species not there anymore because something killed them off a century or two ago. ( I mostly just want them gone so that it is planet run by the Pokémon not by them.)
The Pokémon say that they want to join star fleet which turns into a bit of a debate as their space faring technology is far behind the rest of the others in the federation. However it turns out that they wish to go and become star fleet companions.
Imagine a Jigglypuff in science blues, science officer assistant Jigglypuff.
Or a squirtle in security reds, security officer assistant Squirtle.
As Pokémon are so cute and useful the federation ends up putting a protection order on the planet as there is a big problem when they are introduced to the rest of the federation and beyond of people going to kidnap them for the slave trade.
However Pokemon who wish to become companions tend to join up with star fleet so as to meet beings from other planets.
The Pokémon seem to understand what everyone are saying from day one. However , starfleet learns to translate the written language of the Pokémon quickly but the verbal language they struggle with. However they discover that the more time you spend with a Pokémon and the closer you get the more you understand them. To the point where companions understand their partners fluently. It is discovered that this is because of a low level psychic bond that forms between companions allowing understanding.
Some examples of pairings:
Scotty has a pikachu companion which runs around after him with his little red shirt and tool belt.
Bones has of course a chansey who has a blue apron and hat. They couldnât convince the PokĂ©mon that medical PokĂ©mon didnât need little hats so they all get blue ones with the science emblem on them.
Spock hadnât intended to get one when he joined starfleet but then met an Espeon who convinced him otherwise. As they are both psychic species they can have limited conversations when touching and Espeon can project images to him if he isnât too far away. Spock does find the bond with Espeon and her presence in his mind, reassuring as his family bonds are very faint as he is living so far away from Vulcan.
Uhura has an Alolan Vulpix who loves to perform with her when she sings.
Jim has a Ditto. He tends to turn up to shift with a hat or scarf or other accessory which will turn out to be ditto hanging out with him. Spock is always telling them off because a rainbow scarf isnât part of the uniform captain. Jim is like but donât I look good in it and Ditto was wanting to celebrate Pride month. These banter sessions usually end in ditto either turning back into his own form or at least turning into something gold coloured.
Sulu with his love of plants ends up making friends with a feisty Bulbasaur and they spend their off time training and helping look after the small garden of plants Sulu has in his quarters.
If anyone has any other ideas for good parings or alternative parings I would love to hear about them.
