I just can't stand for Gerald slander man. He was very troubled and flawed and made bad dangerous decisions out of love and desperation to the point that in the moment he didn't care what it cost him which he himself acknowledged, and he ended up doing something awful when he fully broke but like his bio said, at his core he was driven by benevolent ambitions. It's so much more tragic and impactful when you look at it for what it really is. And also makes him way more interesting for his intended complexity

He cared about benefitting humanity with science and Shadow said he told him that in SA2, he cared about trying everything he could to help Maria, he cared about Shadow and built the Eclipse Cannon with it set to be used to destroy the Black Comet in the future and addressed it as a gift to Shadow while apologizing for giving him a battle he never asked for in his journal, he apologized to Shadow for the path he put him on but is proud of how he's walked it in SXSG when he's in his right mind, he loves him like a son and calls him such

It's all right there and you're only fixed on the person he became when he reached the tipping point and went insane when what he loved most was ripped from him tragically. Then he clearly couldn't think clearly to think about anything he had left like Shadow and no longer had love for humanity for how they took Maria away from him when he originally wanted to make people happy through the power of science

Even the whole deal with creating a rift between his sons and how they don't talk much to him much, likely because of they didn't like the idea of his way of treating Maria and such high priority of her and stuff, even then in the journal he says "my love for them shouldn't be a divisive issue" it was out of love for them too. No matter what he always acted with the best intentions and love and care for others and it's WHY he made bad choices. He made a deal with Black Doom because he was getting desperate for the same reason

Does it make what he ended up trying to do right? No, obviously not, but there's still a reason and insisting he was always a horrible abusive asshole that genuinely didn't care about anyone or only Maria isn't it. He's not Eggman who literally only does it for selfish gain in ways that benefit nobody but himself while in his regular state of mind. Gerald literally went insane and became a shell of who he was while Eggman's intentions were evil and selfish from the start. People have it backwards and I'd wish they'd have that energy towards Eggman where it's true instead of slandering Gerald

I'm gonna try not to talk about too much spoiler stuff until the game releases because it's so close but I didn't mind reading the journal now as you don't play the game and progress the story to unlock and read it, it's something you just get with the game and can read first so-

we already knew he had two boys but people liked to imagine he was the maternal grandfather for years which I never liked, I love how paternal is real solidified canon now. it was always obvious that was their intention with the surname anyway

and they're exactly how I imagined!!! was a safe bet to imagine they'd look just like Gerald and Eggman though, that's just how male Robotniks are built XD I knew they'd have those beautiful Robotnik family genetics. I knew he'd have to be as handsome as his father Gerald and son Ivo 🥰

I need to know more immediately- which one of the two is Eggman's dad, what is his name, is he the roboticist or the archaeologist, why was there a rift between him and his brother/Eggman's uncle? :O I'm so invested as I've been a fan of the idea of his father before he was even a thing officially lol. tell me nooow!!!

Gerald looks so much happier in his photos where he was fat.😍

he does, he looks so much brighter and happier in the journal photos art and I'm so in love 🥰 fat Gerald is happy and jolly healthy Gerald. there's a huge difference in how he was cozy and happy being fat and wearing his cute silly slippers compared to sad skinny look in his normal sad brown shoes:

literally night and day. even his glasses on his in game model are flat and don't have much shine which makes it look like some of the life and light in him is gone which is genius if intentional

it's unethical and cruel for him to malnourished and sad. they clearly weren't feeding him well enough on the ARK. if it was due to his stress someone should've been looking out for him. it's inhumane. this is what people who say they don't like fat Gerald are supporting fhsjgslskgh I don't dislike his new in game model but this is what's right for him

he should be warm and cuddly and soft for all the love and care and good he had in him that drove him, like a big teddy bear. it matches who he is inside. while his grandson is also a bear but more like a fierce dangerous wild bear who was always evil and mean and selfish lol

skinny Gerald works when he's miserable and near the end of life like in his imprisonment and execution but otherwise he should be fat. he looks so handsome in the journal photos artwork. I understand why his sons exist. I understand why Black Doom wanted him

he looks so huggable when he has a happy round appearance, he deserves all the hugs because he was troubled and flawed but still a loving caring sweetheart ahfiabsngsbkg I love him so much

I'm passionate about the subject because I just want what's best for him and for him to at least have been happy in life for as long as possible before his tragic end. I would've done everything in my power to keep him fat and happy if I was there 💜

all that talk of maria in geralds journal and not a word about ivo, that must have drove him up a wall when he found it

You gotta consider though, a bunch of the pages and entries are visibly damaged or completely ripped out and missing throughout, so who knows what was or wasn't on those! The possibilites are neverending. But yeah from Eggman's perspective, he probably wasn't very happy to not see any mentions of him at all. All that love and talk of Maria instead like she's so special when he's - hey wait this seems familiar XD

Depending on what their ideas are for the timelines as I suppose there's the possibility he wasn't born until right after his last entries or something, though the way he talks of Maria in Frontiers suggests otherwise, it would serve as even more of a reason for Eggman to be bothered by all of the attention Maria gets both before and after her death- even from Gerald himself after in a sense with all the writing about her left in his journal. Must've bothered him after how much everyone else talking about her did too in his childhood

Either way and no matter the circumstances, I can definitely see Eggman being so intrigued to read about his grandpa but also at times being conflicted and his face dropping and rolling his eyes at times like "ugh why does so much of this have to be about her though". Feeling confliction, not enjoying seeing his hero and inspiration speak so highly of someone who isn't him when really he's the one that deserves it - just like the bratty entitled arrogant jerk he was about it in the Egg Memos lol

But then when he got to the Project Shadow parts and realized the top secret weapon would be helpful to him in his evil plans, I'm sure it immediately changed his tune and cheered him up again! >:) 💜

The way I see it is that the man on the right in the photo is Ivo's father as he has the distinctive grin and shaded glasses like Ivo's glasses are shaded. I also believe personally that he's the roboticist and that is what induced Ivo's interest in that subject. But the proof that Eggman's father is also a genius (Because he was well on his way to a doctorate.) shows that an inclination to brilliance seems inherent in the Robotnik bloodline.

Yeah it does seem like he has the most more intricate details of similarities to Ivo between the two, as if they specifically thought it out for him to be genetically - and aesthetically with the glasses - similar to him. I don't wanna say for sure which one when we still know so little and all the males in the family look very alike with those beautiful unique Robotnik family genetics XD but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the right

I also don't wanna make too confident assumptions yet in whether his father was the archeologist or roboticist but it's likely they'd go with the latter for stronger story ties to Ivo. But I think his father being either and the ways it could play any amount of influence in Eggman's skills and interests, considering he dabbles in both for his evil and his plans, so it's just as interesting to me either way

Eggman saying "scientific genius runs in the family" in TailsTube wasn't a lie and his grandpa isn't the only proof- it's just he goes about acknowledging it in the most narcissistic self praising way to emphasize selfish credit lol. The way he held his grandpa with such high regard compared to how he never directly speaks of and names the rest of his family's skills for bragging rights suggests he wasn't impressed with his father's level in comparison, now we know he had quite a bit too. I always had that hc hehe

I also love how despite this apparent inclination and all these smarties in the family, Eggman is so narcissistic and egotistical that he considers himself the greatest scientific genius in the world and believes in marking himself a place as the ultimate genius of all time to the point and believes he's so brilliant that he demands all the attention and praise in the world and feels entitlement to ruling it all. The most fucking extreme example of letting it go to your head ever and I love the crazy arrogant bastard for it XD 💜

I hate to say it because I love Maria, but do you think Gerald pulling out all the stops to cure Maria is what caused a rift between Eggman Sr and the others? Eggy himself talks about slightly resenting Maria in the memos because everyone focused on her. Maybe Eggman Sr was aggravated by this?

it could certainly be a part of it with just how deeply devoted Gerald was as he vowed to be from the very beginning and her illness ended up making that into a very real serious commitment and duty as a matter of life or death for her

so I can see how it could have an impact on the family in various ways including issues between his sons. Gerald saying "[his] love for them shouldn't be divisive issue" is vague but suggests his actions have a part and it being related to Maria makes sense
