Crops (Gerco de Ruijter)
Crops, by Gerco de Ruijter (via):
CROPS is a stopmotion film on centre pivot irrigation in the USA. Long water-sprinkler arms rotate around a central pivot, irrigating circular fields of verdant crops in desert or semiarid environments.
This trailer was made using 1000 circles cropped in Google Earth. It is the starting point for a larger project to be released this year.
There’s more on the artist’s blog, including some lovely composite images.
Gerco de Ruijter is a visual artist from the Netherlands. De Ruijter experiments with the eye of the camera in an unusual way. He photographs landscapes with a camera attached to a kite. The intensity of these images seems to contradict the simplicity of their creation. The absence of a horizon, our eye's normal orientation point, creates a curious and enigmatic abstraction, by which de Ruijter's photographs are closer to painting than to documentary photography. The viewer gets caught up in de Ruijter's amazement with the beauty of what is practically imperceptible to the human eye -even unattainable- but which can be made visible with help of the camera's mechanical eye. I found this artist first when i was doing a project for school. Make my own magazine. Purely fictive, but to make a magazine with the theme that i love, is a dream come true “) Art by Nature (all content is not mine, only the the magazine design and the logo, i thought because it was a school project no one would mind”)). The way Gerco takes you up in the sky like a bird, like a dream... Just take of in “my beautiful, my beautiful balloon“! I wish there was a publisher who would take on my magazine, to have a magazine that’s inspired by nature, with a collection of art, illustration, photography, graphic design and more, would truly be the magazine i would buy (in printable i would already have a copy “))
