Does anyone else remember/had the "german box" (or whatever your first lanhuage is)? Because I'm just lying around in bed instead of finishing my assignments and I remembered having it when I was like 13.
And I guess, it made sense as a concept. Like we had this box and at the start of the New schoolyear everyone had to write a random topic they were interested in on a piece of paper. And then whenever you didn't talk in English the box was passed on to you and whoever had it at the end of the lesson had to take a piece of paper out and prepare a Sport presentation on it.
And I guess it worked, because we mostly talked english and we also got used to ding presentations but...like...
There were regular screams of "German, German box" going on and some very intense discussions about who spoke German last. Not to mention the presentations which were pretty something else. Because can you imagine the weird topics, 13 year olds choose.
I vividly remember one of the 'cool' kids from my class having to talk about One Direction and Damon Salvaterre. A dude had to talk about TicTacs, I'm pretty sure all my knowledge about soccer Clubs is from those one minute talks and I made sure my everyone new about whichever bookcharacter I was just obsessing about by only ever writing down fictional characters.
It was wild. And we had to do this for years so I do wonder how the teachers managed to stay serious with all of us pubescent weirdos. Because the cringe definitely was there.
