Dude I just had a vision. Jay, local bug nerd, teaching Kai, local I fucking hate bugs guy, helping Kai with his fear of bugs.
Maybe they’re our training and suddenly Jay finds a firefly struggling on the ground (maybe they accidentally hit it?) and he goes to gently pick it up and Kai’s like “ew ew we please don’t get near me with that thing” - cue to Jay softly helping Kai get over his fear by having him hold the firefly in his hands and stuff. Eventually the firefly recovers and flies away or some shit but yes.
Even better if Kai remembered these moments when he’s going agaisnt his fuckass centipede great grandfather or smth

But then fast forward he has a change of heart or whatevevrrervrrrr . He has matured❤️❤️❤️ they have their little bonding moment. jay’s like ‘omg why are u so scared lol’ like HE wasn’t the reason kai had to develop bug-specific coping mechanisms . kai’s like 😳 gee maybe bugs aren’t so bad?? and jay’s like wow i’m such a good teacher <33333 as if this isn’t literally just damage control. They hold the firefly AND each others hands it’s super romantic everyone cheers in the background
