hi, dear!! i've already done 6 here, so i'll just do 17 this time.

17. Describe a fic that is still in the ‘ideas’ stage.

oh god, there are...so many. which one do i talk about?? the one about dragons? draco growing up with the tom riddle diary? tbd jane austen AU? the blackmail one? there are too many choices!!

okay, i'll talk about the one i'm going to work on after my next fest fic, which is fake-dating!! harry and draco are on-again off-again fwb; at the start of the fic they're off because harry is in a relationship, but harry botches a proposal and they break up. so harry and draco start fake-dating so harry can prove to his ex that he's capable of settling down and being serious about someone, and draco has been his most functional long-term "relationship" yet.

draco goes along with this because he also crashed out of a long-term relationship semi-recently and is sick of being pitiably single but is too hurt/scared to actually date for real again. he's also bored and miserable managing the malfoy estate instead of finishing grad school (he's a magical geologist in this and i am going to love making up this job lol. harry is a quidditch writer who lives kind of a chaotic, messy lifestyle, which is part of the issue his ex has).

obviously there is pining and misunderstandings and it takes a while for draco and harry to figure their shit out!! taking bets on how insane the word count is going to be now 🙃

Several people have been kind enough to let me publish their thoughts on fandom, community, and queerness to celebrate Pride in the Library. Today's piece comes from @getawayfox.

First of all I want to say thank you, dear Librarian, for inviting me to participate in such an incredible project. Being part of it means more than I can explain.  

Like many others, I have discovered my queerness via reading fic. It was an actual, classic italicized "oh" moment for me and I can still pinpoint the fic that did it (I thought about sharing a link but it’s actually deeply personal for me, so it will keep living in my brain). And I kept reading because it felt like I was discovering more about my true self that had been pushed under the rug for so long. Being from a small town and growing up with a bigoted parent didn’t allow me a lot in this area before.

But what happened next was even more amazing: I made friends with creators of these fics that mean so much, with people that keep the fandom going, and I was able to chat about anything and everything with them – from our love of HP, our daily lives, to our insecurities and deepest secrets. And it is so freeing to have people in your life, no matter how many timezones away, who are there for you, who understand the parts of you that are hard to explain sometimes.

IRL my queerness is often invisible and I sometimes struggle with the classic "am I queer enough" question. It’s thanks to this community that I know I am. It’s thanks to this community I have learned to take up space. It’s thanks to this community I went to my first pride years ago and I have been every year since. It’s this community I can turn to when I feel insecure or joyous. It’s being part of a project like this that makes me feel like I belong.

Thank you, El, for joining me in the Library. What you said about being able to celebrate queerness with a community really resounded with me, and I appreciate that you took the time to celebrate Pride in the Library here with us.

4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?

omg. god my mind immediately flashed to sex things lmao, let me think of a non-NSFW one...okay so the right term of endearment used in the exact place or time in a fic will always get me. darling, sweetheart, babe; any of those will make me lose my mind when they're not overdone because i think they can be so effective when used correctly/significantly!!

7. What is your deepest joy about writing?

aww, probably just like getting to see how far my imagination will take something and seeing that translate outside of my brain. writing is just possibility!! it's so freeing!

28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?

god okay this might be a bad one for me because when i switch fandoms it means i'm switching hyperfixations and it's hard for me to see past one and look at all the others. so idk about MOST of all time, and i do miss writing tyson barrie from hockey rpf. but right now i would have to say good ol' HJP. he is so fun to write and i swear i write faster from his POV because i like him so much; he is a delight, which is why i get feral in defense of him!!! very protective of the harry i write tbh.
