It baffles me how some people think it's acceptable to sit at home all day when you're perfectly capable of working, and collect money paid into the system by those who do work.
People who are on workfare because they've been laid off are okay. People who get money for disabilities that make it so they can't work are okay. People who are elderly and paid into the system their whole life and are now in retirement are okay. Sure, I would prefer focusing on job creation so not so many people need workfare. Sure, I would prefer those who are incapable of work were supported by charities rather than those who are forced to give through taxes (and I actually donate to charities whenever I have enough money, because I believe in voluntary charity even if I don't believe in forced thievery). Sure, I would prefer people are required to invest in their own retirement rather than be taxed throughout their life and rely on the government to hold up their end of the deal later on. But at least people in those categories are on it for valid reasons rather than just laziness.
But people who sit at home when they are perfectly capable of working need to get a job, or be permitted to die off and stop being a drain on the masses. This includes people who are on survivor's benefits even though they're capable of working; just because your husband worked and then died doesn't mean you shouldn't have to work, if he wanted you to be taken care of after his death he could have gotten life insurance. If these people see the only alternative to dying of starvation is getting a job or agreeing to workfare, they'll come around.
