2. When was the last time you cried? Idk, i think yesterday? Rewatching a kid show…

5. What sports do you play/have you played? Too many to count, favourite one is football

6. What's the first thing you notice about other people? Im not sure, i think i really notice their posture and their tone, dunno why tho

8. Scary movies or happy endings? Im not a big fan of scary movies but not much of a fan of happy endings, i think i just like cliffhangers that end in a continuing series so i don't get bored of shows-

9. Any special talents? Im the best English student in all of my year and im really good at binging stuff, got through Ted Lasso and Stranger Things in, like, a week or two-

11. What are your hobbies? Writing, Piano, Dance, Reading, Watching TV, Gaming, etc…

Brainstorming, daydreaming, art, and (weirdly enough) analyzing/deconstructing stuff I read (character interactions, some essays, depends on how invested I am…).

24. Transfiguration: If you could be an animagus, what form would you take?

Ok, so practicality warred with fancy and lost in this category. Some sort of bird of prey–probably large, gorgeous (or adorable?), and also very dangerous because that combo is my fave and sometimes I really just want to fly away from my problems and take the scenic route, ya feelin’ me? And of course being able to defend yourself would be pretty nice. 

It was that OR a black panther (fancy, because that would stand out so bad) OR a Russian Blue cat (practicality, because no one will look twice and I can take lots of naps).

31. Nimbus 2000: What’s something you’ve always wanted?

Not including fandom-related merchandise and big things like future financial stability, 

Yeah. Also, a new camera (and tripod) because mine is being held together by tape. Also, some DVDs of my favorite shows that disappeared from Netflix would be nice.

Oooooh. Tough question. I want to say I’d pick someone exciting, but that usually means Life Endangering Quests and I am actually too practical to want that, so…ah. Shoot. Who do I pick?

…some sort of side character, maybe. Umm. Who fits my criteria of badass but mostly removed from the action? Idk. Let’s be very general and say some sort of benevolent, shadow, dictator with a bleeding heart. lmao. That was pretty unhelpful wasn’t it? Sorry, no characters are coming to mind atm except for Silmarillion characters and that’s just a tragedy waiting to happen.

One Day More

Another day, another destiny. On this never ending road to… neurology. So I have aged recently. Birthdays are a strange place for me – as a child, I remember the fascination, the obsession, the excitement; seeing all your friends, cake, presents, and feeling like you were reaching new milestones every time. Now it feels more like a lament. A regret. Another year has come, and I still have not reached what I’ve set out to do. Perhaps I’m not all that wiser, happier, or stronger as a person. Perhaps I’m walking in slow circles and just getting older and more cynical. The circle of friends becomes smaller, and the attachments that I had made so keenly in college seem to be a little more distant. At least that’s what the past few years have been feeling like. How much of that is me, and how much of that is the residency – who knows?

My life has been feeling very melancholy lately. The world looks blue. I keep finding myself in these foolhardy romances, where I convince myself that maybe the other person may like me to the point that we could both be foolish, and live out some romantic ideal. I’ve been taking risks, throwing my heart out, holding it out with all my vulnerabilities, laying myself bare like a patient at the mercy of a surgeon in the operating room. By the end of it all, it feels like a trauma scene. My hands are singed from criticism, my ego bruised, and self-esteem is punctured like a fresh pneumothorax.  My veins are collapsed, my pulse has begun to slow, and I’m reminded of the pre-syncopal haze when I was hospitalized several years ago in anaphylaxis. Is this what my life is going to be? Is it better to stop trying? Why do I do these things? Why do I yearn so hard for something so far out of my locus of control?

But perhaps I need perspective. And to not be such a dramatic 4-legged mammal. Perhaps, I need to take a step back, and figure out – what am I doing with myself, and why is finding someone so important to me? What defines me as person, and how can I move past these stupid tribulations and trials that I put myself through? I need to get to know myself better. Who am I? They say that you can only love someone once you really know and love yourself - at least, that’s what the tumblr memes that pop up on my feed tell me. I’m told that I connect to people easily. I’m told that I ask interesting questions and that is how I build strong relationships with people. Perhaps I need to start asking myself some of these things, and really learn who I am before I can learn who other people are. As I enter my second quarter-century, I think I need to remember that the book is only getting started. Just because the first few chapters were crappy, that does not mean that the ending has to be, as well. Every protagonist has his faults and challenges to overcome, and it’s only with adversity that we can foster resilience.

Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Astrid Salazar. I was both, born and raised, here at El Paso. I am 18 years old and this is my second semester at UTEP. I graduated from Bel Air high school with two certificates. One allows me to work as a correctional officer and the other one helped me become a licensed 911 dispatcher. As you can tell I have a passion for criminology, which makes my major not hard to guess. I am majoring on Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. Talking about things I love, I have a puppy, who’s name is Jake. He is a shih tzu and he is the cutest thing ever!

Another interesting thing I wanted to share is that I am a youth mentor, or leader’s assistant, at my church. That takes a huge part of my life because everyone there is like my family. I spend a lot of time with them and I enjoy being able to form part of them.  

For me rhetoric is the art of writing which is essential when trying to get a message across. This is because it is accompanied by figures of speech and important writing skills. 

The expectations I have for this course is to, first of all, improve my wiring techniques. Also, extend my knowledge and English vocabulary.

Lastly, my course topic proposal would be human trafficking. I chose this topic because I am really interested in it and I feel it is something that is not talked about very often.

Hey, one of my friends just came out to me as Ace and I want to get much closer with her but I don’t really understand anything about it. Also I don’t really know how to make sure that she knows I’m supportive of her without being too on the nose (she’s quite shy and I don’t think I could just yell my appreciation in her face without it being hella awkward) So can I please get a brief rundown about what being Ace is like? And how to subtly show that I’m here for her if she needs me? Thank you! X

What being is asexual is like, well that’s just normal for me. I’ll watch a movie with my family and they’ll point out an actor and go, “They’re hot!” I mean yeah, their physical appearance is, but I’d rather make them laugh so hard they start to cry.

You’re automatically seen as straight or bi. I have to tell people I’m asexual, and even then I get the “You just haven’t found the right person” or “Do you even know what that means?” Yes I do binch.

A lot of people who are in the asexual community start out identifying as asexual, it’s the umbrella term. Your friend may decide to chose a label more specific, or stick with asexual. Be kind, don’t ask anything like the above.

Movies man, make sure there aren’t any long sex scenes. I’m not talking about maybe 30 seconds and you’re not seeing all of it, I’m talking about sexual scenes that go on for couple minutes and show you most of it. Speaking forming experience, I get so awkward and uncomfortable, I usually leave the theater, or room, and use the bathroom until it’s over. It sucks, it doesn’t matter to the story. If you do accidentally end up talking your friend and it happens to be like that, just tell them you didn’t know there was a sex scene in it and you’re really sorry. They’ll brush it off, but appreciate it.
