Thirty-three years ago today, Lucille was admitted to Cedars-Sinai where she underwent open heart surgery to repair her failing heart with tissue from a twenty-seven year old male donor. During this week, cards, letters and faxes poured in to the hospital from fans around the world as seen in this photo showing volunteers sorting thousands of well-wishes that flood the medical center for Lucillle following her open heart surgery. A hospital spokesman said, "on a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 14." 'A flood of telegrams, telephone calls and messages sent by facsimile machine from well-wishers continued to pour into the hospital'. "As she recovers, Miss Ball is to remain in the intensive care unit over the weekend and probably will stay in the hospital for at least two weeks. The fax has got to be the Hallmark card of the 1990's and we were getting them at a rate of one every two minutes yesterday and it's now about one every four or five minutes. I gave Mr. Morton about two pounds of faxes.'' —Ron Wise, Cedars-Sinai spokesman. #lucilleball #getwellcards #wellwishers #volunteers #cedarssinai #hospital #openheartsurgery #faxmachine #hallmarkcards #icu https://www.instagram.com/p/CcgMMj-O83O/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
