People always excitedly say, "I cant wait to just drop everyone and everything and leave. To find a new place and see new people and really LIVE"
No matter where you go, you wont find what you're chasing until your mind stops running and you learn to embrace the place you are and the people around you.
You cant say "I want to go enjoy the sunset on a beach in Tahiti" when you dont even know how to enjoy the sunset that you see every day. Sure enough you'll enjoy the Tahiti sunset. But not as much as you will once you learn to enjoy EVERY sunset you see. You can't appreciate one rock. And not the others.
And new people? When you get to a place. Those people are new to you, just like if they were to leave and go to your home place- the people you couldnt wait to leave, would be new to them.
Eventually you'll tire of wherever you go and whatever you see if you cant enjoy things as they are in your moment.
So what if you friend is "square" wherever your going, the people you meet will be "square" to the people they've known for years too.
Why does it take an outsider to appreciate us? Why can't you enjoy yourself. And enjoy the people in your life, and then enjoy people you meet along the way of life? Why does everything always have to be new? Why do you have to change every aspect of life around you, in order to change yourself. (Which let's be honest, is really what you're trying to do) if you cant be who you want to be, and learn to change and love yourself where you stand. What makes you think you will if everything else changes but you? Itll be a constant cycle forever. And instead of truly traveling and enjoying yourself and what you see- you'll enjoy things when you see it once, itll get old, and you'll have to change it again.
Stop romanticizing this idea that a new place is a new you. All you're really doing is RUNNING.
Learn to love yourself, change what you dont like now, you dont have to travel to see something beautiful. Stop staring at 4 walls and your phone screen and open a fucking door. Start walking. Start LOOKING at things instead of giving them a passing glance. Only when you start to see the beauty that is already in you and around you- will you truly be able to enjoy life. Once you achieve that is when you start to travel and branch out.
Stop waiting for some big outside change/moment to start living your life and start living it today. Like literally right now.
Get your head out of your ass and stop romanticizing every idea in your head. And start Living. Smell the air, feel the wind, feel the sun, pay attention to your surroundings and start observing the life around you.
