Gun Control
Since there have been several tragedies recently I knew that this would be a touchy subject. However I am not trying to advocate any particular point of view. With the recent school shootings people from across the nation are voicing their opinions on gun control. Just earlier this morning, thousands of people marched on Washington to demonstrate their desires for stricter gun laws. With several shootings happening recently I can understand people wanting to enforce stricter gun laws and universal background checks. On the other hand, when we look at how 22 children were stabbed at a school in China this last December, we can see that it doesn’t take a gun to harm innocent children. However there weren’t any fatalities at the Chinese school stabbing. At what point do we draw the line? Do we completely ban guns all together? And if so, would criminals be able to get their hands on illegal arms anyway? I do believe there should be background checks and certain legislation put into place, but I’m not sure what laws exactly. I also think that if schools did in fact have armed guards it would, at the very least, discourage criminals from attempting anything and if worse came to worse those guards would be able to protect the children. Either way both sides have good points, after all it is a very complicated subject and I’m curious to hear everyone’s opinion.
