“Lucy, you can be honest... Do you love Natsu-san?” Juvia asked, her hand hesitant to reach out to her friend beside her.
She was already looking away, her eyes filling with something that Juvia had seen many times when the rain still poured around her. It was a look that was guarded... A look of someone who told themselves that they weren’t ready to ever love anybody.
Her shoulders trembled as she breathed out and her hands tightened on the sides of her chair. “Natsu... Well, he’s my partner.” She continued to stare down, chewing on her lower lip as she mulled her answer. “We do everything together and.. no matter what I know that he would do almost everything for me..”
“Of course I love him. “ She smiled, but as she looked back up at Juvia there was still sadness in her brown eyes. “But is there any point in ruining what we have for that?”
There was a pause between them- the silence falling over the two as they shared a quiet moment. Though it wasn’t long till the water mage was speaking up, her voice gentle as she offered a piece of advise that would stick with the blonde for some time after. “Juvia thinks that it is worth it.” Lucy’s eyes grew, her mouth falling open to retort but her friend only held up a finger.
“Your friendship is wonderful- don't think that Juvia disagrees, but love... love with someone precious to you is worth dying for.” Her hand came down to the scar on her stomach, the raised tissue throbbing as the memory surfaced in her mind. “Besides,” she spoke louder, with more cheer as a smile made it’s way on her face, “Juvia is sure that Natsu-san and you could get through anything together. Even a relationship.”
The blonde blinked, once and then twice before her smile mirrored Juvia’s.
“You’re right.”
