Hello dear chat,

just dropped in in case anyone is looking for me or is worried about where I disappeared. I rewatched Teach Me Tonight and the episodes after last night, and Lorelai's behavior is...not good.

"I get to hate him forever," she tells Rory as they're arguing about the accident.

What is that?

Her behavior is wild. I understand that she's a single parent, and this is new territory for her, I get it. But damn. "I get to hate him forever"?

And screaming at Luke for taking Jess in in the first place was just cruel. Oof.

And yeah, granted that first interaction when she tries to have Luke and Jess over for dinner when Jess first gets to town is bad. It's bad. But since then, she's been treating him like he's her age.

Jess is a little shit. He is. But he's a kid, and it's up to the adults around him to yes, make sure there are consequences for negative actions, but also to treat him like a kid. And not 30-year-old.

I actually think that's one of the things Luke does well with Jess. Consequences for shitty behavior, but also...Jess is treated as a child in Luke's home, and that's really important.

Lorelai eventually realizes that Rory and Jess dating is inevitable and there's nothing much she can do but be as supportive as she can be, but uh...Lorelai does not cover herself in glory here.
