love that annie feels worse about the girls from the strip club being out of work now than the possibility of dean going back to jail... same girl

#been thinking a lot about this scene and how 'sometimes it's worth it' #does NOT necessarily mean that THIS time it was worth it #for either of them#but here they are #feeling the weight of their choices #and theyre not in it together #but they kind of are #they kind of always are #even when theyre directly against each other #it's lonely at the top but sometimes it's worth it #sometimes. #it's lonely just being myself but at least i'm not the only one anymore.#at least someone else knows what that feels like now. sometimes. #sometimes
excuse me who gave you the riGHT??????????????
look i've spent three and a half seasons thinking about how it must feel to be beth and have someone finally FINALLY see her and now, after all the nick stuff, all i can think about is how it must feel to be rio and have someone finally FINALLY understand how isolating it is to be the one at the top/accountable for everyone else and i am having a lot of feelings so i am inflicting them on everyone else AND YOU ARE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL OKAY!!
“what are you gonna buy?” “something special for you” should be such a flirty exchange between the two of them but it just wasn’t and i LOVE that. more than anything it mocked that part of their relationship. it acknowledged that the personal affects the professional and that it’s a problem. for both of them. they wouldn’t be in the difficult situation they’re in if they could just let each other go already. ugh it was so good.
i’m not sure what point i’m trying to make here but
rio: unraveling a little bit under the scrutiny of his relationship with beth from one of the people who knows him best in the world
dean: having some realizations about how irrevocably destroyed his life is and how he can never get it back
ruby: failing to navigate the delicate space between her husband and her best friend until getting to the point that she has to admit to herself and to her husband a difficult truth
beth: being confronted with the harsh reality of how her selfish actions hurt other people (both with stan and with phoebe), even when her intentions are “good”
stan: struggling to reconcile his personal feelings about his wife’s best friend with the reality of his life situation/circumstances
annie: trying to do the right/best thing for her kid while hitting a wall made up of not her past mistakes but of past wrongs done to her
something about everybody being stuck between a rock and a hard place and having to examine their role in how they got to where they are now, meanwhile annie is just out there trying her best despite getting knocked around by life. #growth #maybecohenactuallydidsomethingright #jkfuckthatguy
how deeply fucked up is it that ben can’t get financial aid to go to a school that’s a good fit for him just because of his mother’s criminal record??? st anne’s really said no you are not allowed to break the cycle and no your kid doesn’t get to have it better than you did
ben is SUCH a good and empathetic kid he deserves the world
Looks like your back on good terms with Good Girls and 408 was just a blip hehe
yeah i really love 4x09 but it’s only hammered home how much i hate 4x08 and how non-sensical it was. emotionally, you could take out 4x08 completely and it wouldn’t matter. there are a few plot things that happen (getting gene out of the picture, the secret service having the money in their possession, etc) that are important for 4x09 to make sense but that’s it.
everything between beth and rio (and nick) makes more sense if you remove 4x08 completely.
with 4x08:
rio asks beth to choose
beth chooses him
rio asks beth to do something that threatens her family’s livelihood while giving her no incentive to do so
beth refuses
rio threatens her family/children
beth tries to comply with rio out of fear
nick goes to beth to warn her about rio????
secret service threatens beth’s family
beth turns on rio/helps get him arrested to protect her family
rio is pissed/betrayed and asks nick what they’re going to do about beth
nick tells him this is a good thing and now they can use her (despite trying to warn her away???)
rio shows up at beth’s house and tells her he’s not mad (he’s totally mad!!!) because now they can do whatever they want
rio asks beth to get the money back
nick goes to rio with concerns about his relationship with beth
rio is defensive
nick punishes rio
beth betrays phoebe/gets the money back
rio gives beth a “gift” in the form of a continued business venture together
but if you remove 4x08:
rio asks beth to choose
beth chooses him
rio asks beth to get the money back (which could easily just be changed to rio asks beth to print without threatening her children this time because she already chose him so just tell her WHY you want the money jesus christ)
nick goes to rio with concerns about his relationship with beth
rio is defensive
nick “punishes” rio
beth betrays phoebe/gets the money back (or, prints it)
rio gives beth a “gift” in the form of a continued business venture together
not only does eliminating 4x08 not change the emotional destination, it flat-out makes more sense. it doesn’t have rio all over the place, swinging from resigned but still hurt over the fact that they’re not a team yet to threatening her kids to betrayed and pissed enough that he actually wants to do something about it to defensive and protective of their relationship to back to business as usual.
instead it’s rio being resigned/hurt to them coming to some sort of an understanding because now they actually are on the same team and not threatening each other or going behind each other’s backs which plays perfectly into rio being defensive/protective of their relationship with nick (because beth won’t have JUST betrayed him) and then the “gift” would be like a symbol of them moving forward together professionally. it just makes more sense! i will die on this hill lol
why is this show trying to make me sympathize with cops????
