The Splendour of Queen Mary
HM Queen Mary is most notorious for her preference of being dripped in jewels. It is a common hearsay among the upperclass that they hide their precious belongings when Her Majesty comes to town because she had a habit of expecting her subjects to give her anything she sets her eyes on. That is the reason behind her infamous nickname—the Magpie.
Worn on the large upper photo is her consort crown, the Crown of Queen Mary; on the large lower photo is the Delhi Durbar Parure Tiara, now used by the Duchess of Cornwall.
The upper quartet are, clockwise: the GD Vladimir Tiara, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara in their pearl toppers, the Queen Mary Fringe, & the Lover’s Knot Tiara.
The lower quartet are, clockwise: the Sapphire Bandeau, the Gloucester Honeysuckle Tiara, the defunct Amethyst Tiara, & the Cambridge Sapphire Parure Tiara.
