Y’all this is SO late, but I’ve been wanting to do a post about this for so long. In August (yep, that long ago) Gaye Glasspie of ggmadeit came and spent the whole weekend at the yarn shop I work at!
Even though this was a couple months ago, I’m STILL on a high from how amazing that experience was. She came in and had the most amazing energy, and the love the community that came in from around the state and others was a sight to behold. We’re not a super large store, and we were definitely filled to capacity with people who just wanted to get a hug from GG.
I’m a passing black person who is very proud of my heritage and family, and so to watch GG have a productive conversation about racism within the knitting community, and to get people to actually listen and open their hearts was awe-inspiring and so beautiful. She led that conversation with love, and people leaned into that love while also leaning into how uncomfortable this conversation is and can be, and left with open ears and hearts to how important it is to actually talk about these experiences in order to affect change.
It was a full weekend of orange, hugs and so much love (and I became an honorary niece to gg- still crying about that 😭😍) and I can’t wait for her to come back again next year and visit her Cleveland family in Shaker Heights!
