"Naftali Moed is a senior at UC Davis earning a degree in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning, with a minor in Landscape Restoration. He grew up in Pacifica, hiking and biking in nearby parklands and reading Bay Nature with his family. As a student at Oceana High School in Pacifica, Naftali continued his love affair with nature by interning for the Park Stewardship Program of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and helped found the school’s garden in partnership with the Conservancy and Pie Ranch, a nonprofit farm on the San Mateo coast. The garden is unique in that it grows both edible plants, to teach educate students about food sustainability issues, and native plants for ecosystem restoration. Naftali was later hired as a seasonal ranger at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area."

As the Presidio Trust Board deliberates on the future of Crissy Field, here's a video to remind us how far we have come. The transformation of Crissy Field involved the removal of non-historic structures in order to reintroduce the flatness and texture of a bayside environment; of 70 acres of paving for reuse; of 87,000 tons of hazardous materials; and of 100,000 cubic yards of dirt to create the wetland and restore the adjacent grass airfield. In the lead up to the highly anticipated "Ai Weiwei on Alcatraz" from exhibition partners the FOR-SITE Foundation, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and NPS, this Spring, six fibreglass dioramas depicting his 81 days in detention will be shown at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. This  travelling exhibition “According to What?” will run from April 18-August 10.

GGNPC, in partnership with the FOR-SITE Foundation and the National Park Service, has announced that dissident-artist Ai Weiwei will debut new artwork on Alcatraz next fall. Although Ai has never been to the Rock, his personal experiences with incarceration in China will inform the art pieces in and around the old federal penitentiary--infamous for its limitations of freedom.
