I never noticed that Duzer’s parents didn’t appear in the show...what do you think they’re like? For that matter, what do you think everyone’s relationships with their folks are like. It must be hard, it seems like Gravedale high is a type of boarding school after all
Oh jeeze, uh… I don’t really know where to start with this. I guess by pointing out that in addition to the Monster AU @animatedc9000 and I made I also have an Animated Monster AU that’s a crossover with Gravedale High, Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School, Monster in my Pocket (the cancelled Hanna-Barbera TV show that only aired one episode), and Mad Monster Party/Mad Mad Mad Monsters?
I point this out because I’ve kinda just blurred my headcanons for the show with what I’ve started doing for this AU and in said AU I’ve kinda… made Medusa from Monster in my Pocket Duzer’s mom? And considering that Medusa was in that show’s Super Monster Jail (not what it was called but that’s basically what it is), I’ve kinda made it so that Duzer barely knows her and has mostly been cared for by her two nearly-grown-up sisters (that Cait came up with) since whoever her dad is has been out of the picture for a while? For a long time she doesn’t talk about her home life much with anyone, not even Cleo, but it’s… not good. Some of what’s been going on with her at home does eventually come to light and some of her class volunteer to have her stay with them instead from time to time up until she’s ready to live on her own.
As for the other kids…
In the show Frankentyke was embarrassed about having a human creator for a dad but by the end he was more than willing to accept him, so I imagine he and his human dad have a good relationship, unlike that of the “dad” he and Gill tried to make, which was fairly shallow. His human dad doesn’t talk about his first son/Frankentyke’s brother Big Frankie much though since he’s realized that Frankie’s a goddamn creep and not in the good way.
Sid’s parents have a… strange relationship. Not that they’re particularly bad to him (they’ve had quite the influence on the way he is) or each other (they’ve hit it off well since they met while auditioning for a high school talent show as impressionists), it’s just that they’ve been considering seeing other people while still being together? They’re not really sure how to bring that up with Sid though, who’s having his own journey in self-discovery on who and what he likes.
Gill comes from a line of reasonably wealthy southern US monsters (well, on his dad’s side anyway; his mother’s from Peru), and his parents are pretty chill, both with Gill and in general.
Vinnie’s a stubborn kid, but the truth is he cares a lot about his mom.
Blanche’s parents doted on her a lot while she was growing up.
Since Cleo’s parents were nowhere to be seen in the episode with the parents either, I’ve kinda assumed that they’re not exactly great parents either… Not the same level of bad as Duzer’s mom, more like neglectful.
Reggie’s mom is more mild-mannered while his dad is more of the strict parent.
J.P. can’t complain much about his dad; he’s rich and lets him do what he wants.
