Many Ghosts have a vague idea of what their Guardian is. Sagira sought someone with a spark, and found them in Osiris. Other Ghosts seek fighters. Some seek heroes.
I've always made a point of making friends of other Ghosts and figuring out why they chose who they did. I speak to anyone I can, anyone who's around. This mostly means I speak to people of Ikora's or Saladin's ilk. I know Zavala's Ghost sought a commander. Ikora's Ghost, Ophidicus, he sought- how did he describe it? Miyamoto Musashi. A philosopher-warrior. Many of the Iron Lords, Saladin tells me, were resurrected by Ghosts who sought tyrant-topplers.
But there is one Ghost that always stood out to me.
The Young Wolf's Ghost, they sought, quite simply, a guardian.
"It doesn't feel right. Guardians don't use the Darkness. They fight it."
"You know what the Prophecy of the Nine said as well as I do. Only Light and Dark together than make sure we last."
Arclight shuddered. His shell spun rapidly. Sparks flew off like they always did, but now they seemed agitated. "I know. And if this is the path that you're chosing, I'll walk- or float- by your side to the end. But I want you to know my position."
Ema smiled tightly. The lights under her skin wove new patterns, vaguely mimicking her blood vessels. "Thank you."
Arclight continued. "This path just feels to close to the old stories of the Shadows of Yor, and of Dredgen Yor himself. I don't want to lose you. I know you have a purpose beyond just this, and I want to make sure you live to see it."
"Arclight, do you remember how Reyzl Azzir entered the Hellmouth? What he did before? He left his Ghost at the door." Ema looked into her Ghost's one eye. "I'm taking you with me. You'll be my anchor to the Light, so I don't forget the why behind my actions."
"I'm not sure you need me for that. Kaara will probably remind you enough."
"Kaara and I can get separated. You and I, little Light, can't." Ema's expression briefly turned grim as she whispered, "I won't let it happen."
"And still, there are a lot of people that won't like this. You're a big figure, Ema. The Tempest-Born Iron Lady. People will follow you. And I'm not sure all of them will be as strong-willed as you."
"I can only leave that to the Renegade. Hopefully, Shin will keep them in-line." Ema's brow furrowed in trepidation. "Arclight, I need you to cross this line with me. Otherwise, we'll both die."
"I will. I... Ema, if we die, I... nevermind."
"What? Be honest, Arclight."
Sparks showered off of Arclight's shell again. Ema ignored them. When one conducted more than ten thousand volts and acted as a conduit regularly, such discharges became easy to manage.
"I'm glad I found you, Ema," Arclight said, eventually. In the same moment, he added another item to a growing list.
'I love you.'
