New Ghost Development
So thinking about the whole "Danny is basically a baby to ghosts" and here is my spin on it.
New ghosts aren't babies exactly, but they do have a developmental phase when they first become ghosts where the other ghosts largely leave them alone so they can form properly.
When a ghost forms they need time to fully develop with minimal outside influence. So say someone is killed in the woods, when their ghost forms other ghosts won't try to fight them or anything until the ghost is able to form a solid understanding of how they will approach their obsession/what their obsession is. In the case of the forest ghost it could be if they want to kill their murderer, bring them to justice, have someone find their body, or become some sort of protector of the forest. This will affect their form and power set. Vengeful ghosts tend to be scarier, one that wants someone to find their body might have some sort of guiding light, a forest protector may be more animalistic, etc.
Some ghosts settle quickly and some take years or even centuries. The time frame is largely based on them finally amassing however much power they need to fulfill their obsession. Until they settle they are very mutable. Attacking or pressuring them could cause them to loose sight of their obsession. This in turn could result in growth of powers without direction. Ghosts who this happen to often lose sight of who they are. They generally either spread themselves to thin and fade or become some sort of monster that has to be destroyed.
There are some ghosts that will kill living beings and then continue to harm the new ghost that forms. These predatory ghosts tend to feed on the energy of their victims, which prevents them from ever developing to the monster phase. Ghosts as a whole generally do not like these predators and most sections of the Ghost Zone that have laws in place will punish this behavior.
Specta would be an example of a predatory ghost that would kill someone and then feed on them.

So how does Danny tie into this?
Because he was formed in a rip in the fabric of reality and infused with an obscene amount of ectoplasm he feels like a ghost that has already fully developed, but he has never had a chance to settle. He keeps getting hit with stronger and stronger opponents so he keeps developing more powers in response.
He doesn't even know what his obsession is. Does he want revenge for his death or does he want to find peace with it? Does he need to fix the damage caused by the portal being opened? Or does he want to fulfill his dream to become an astronaut that has been crushed by everything that has happened to him as a result of his death?
Danny doesn't know. He's been shoehorned into being a protector by necessity but he isn't sure if that's really right. He isn't sure if he would move on if someone actually competent would come along to protect Amity in his stead.
He's never had the breathing room to find out.
The ONLY reason he hasn't faded or grown into a monster is because he's part human. His human half anchors his ghost form and protects him from forgetting who he is.
Aside from Clockwork and the Observants no one else has realized this.
