Benny telling a story to his little sister in the late night. Prior to the family knowing he was there, he would tell Alice stories using her toys to play the respective roles. He is very active in her learning and often reads to her, though he isn't always "age appropriate" given what was considered "normal" for his time period vs modern day. He learns over time.
This was supposed to have been a sketch, and it so got out of hand, lol. (If y'all can figure out the song I jacked the lyrics from then you get a cookie lol)
Random doodles/concept sketches
I realize that I'm probably not gonna finish these so might as well just dump them. A lot of it is just random thoughts or painting practice. Some are fairly old so kinda "meh" about them.
Having a little fun with my boy and fooling around with animation.
The original sketch/cell
Me fooling around cause I have waaaaaay too much time on my computer right now. Someone needs to take it from me.
7. Silent Fury for Green Eyes.
7. Silent Fury
The world lay sleeping under the light of the full moon. The owls hooting away, frogs croaking to the subtle sounds of the river while fireflies danced upon its shores. Night blooming jasmines filled the air and wafted around the valley and into the hills. A large stone home looked upon the bliss of the night, standing tall above the valley below. Despite the serenity of the night, the house seemed disturbed and was refusing to settle. Its pulsing shadow cast upon the area turning the once cheerful land into a foreboding place. Shadows darker than the night itself crept around it daring any living thing to approach.
Allison blearly opened her eyes looking around the room. The normally warm room felt oddly cold to her with her chancing a glance at her husband who hogged most of the bedding. The man had turned himself into a mummy leaving her out in the night’s elements. A sigh escaped the woman as she laid in bed internally groaning. She contemplated getting a second blanket to stave off the cold before she began to notice a weird feeling about the room.
The normally quiet home had small whispers of creaks and groans radiating from the walls. A raised brow grew on Allison’s face at the subtle noises before deciding to sit up. She sat up placing her feet on the floor and could feel the shallow rocking motions of the bed and flooring. Allison knew full well it wasn’t her husband rolling around given the man was as still as a corpse. The woman sat there listening to the noises and seeing the subtle movements as a frown slowly grew on her face. It wasn’t an earthquake as it wasn’t stopping, it surely wasn’t her husband, which means only one thing; Benny.
She knew the child ghost had a tremendous effect on his environment and was able to bend things to his will. If the house itself was constantly moving then that must mean Benny isn’t doing very well. Allison knew the little ghost doesn’t harass the house on purpose, he has no reason to. His abilities make it to where he can either positively or negatively affect the house via the emotions he has, and given the hour of the night, he has to be having a nightmare.
Allison willed herself to stand up quickly wrapping her robe around her to try and make herself a little bit warmer. Feet were slid into a pair of slippers readying herself for her little journey. Careful hands slowly turned the doorknob, opening the door to the empty but active hallway. Allison craned her neck to listen to the house once more, confirming that it was still moving from the groans and whines, except this time they were a bit louder than they were earlier.
Cautious steps paced down the hall to the ghost’s room which sat directly across from Alice’s room. The woman slowly placed her hand on the doorknob and turned it ever so slowly in the hopes of not disturbing the room’s occupant. A small click was all she needed to hear that the door was now open and steadily pushed it open to see the interior of the room. A sight that immediately brought a frown to her face.
Ghostly slime oozed and rained from the walls and ceiling giving everything in the room a glossy shine from the moonlight. Any item that wasn’t nailed down floated a few inches from where they normally sat, or floated about the room like an odd whirlpool. The fairy lights in the window that normally imitated the flickering glow of fireflies seemed to dim and pulse from the ghosts' effect on the room, while the ghost himself was a large ball upon the bed.
The normally small child had more than doubled his size causing the bed to creak under him. Unnaturally lanky limbs were curled around the stretched torso while the head was missing. A sickly green glow emanated from the stump of the now large child's neck. Allison chanced a glance at the center of the curled form to see Benny’s head, it too casting a sickly glow. The ghost’s face was contorted into a deep menacing scowl with hints of ghostly greenish tears in the corners of his four eyes. Telltale signs of the child's silent fury about the contents of the dream, for which she assumed was about his biological mother. The memories of the woman would be the only thing to set the child in such a foul mood.
“Benny honey.” Allison spoke aloud, but not approaching. She knew he had the possibility of lashing out, even if it wasn’t intentional.
Her words were met with a low groan as the ghost turned over.
“Sweetie, you need to get up.” She tried again. A small smile graced her face upon seeing him slowly turning to face her.
A small groan escaped the large ghost as he slowly lifted an arm up revealing more of his head. His tired eyes were encased in large near black rings when normally they were a sort of deep purple. The whites of his eyes were completely black making the green of his eyes stand out, even more so with them having a mild glow.
“Can I come in?” The woman’s inquiry earned a small nod.
Allison slowly paced in the room doing her best to stifle a shudder at the cheer frigid temperature of the room. The chill of the slimy fluids dripping overhead nor the fluid coating her slippers and feet didn’t make her feel any better as she paced to the edge of the child’s bed.
A small creak escaped the bed frame as she sat next to Benny for which the ghost moved over slightly allowing her to sit next to him. “Do you want to talk about it?”
Her question was met with a small shake of his head and a tired groan. His body turned to allow her more access to the bed.
“Do you want something warm to drink?” She offered.
Benny’s tired eyes studied the woman before he closed them, giving a small nod. The woman smiled warmly at him before making a small grunt as she eased herself up and off his bed frame.
“I’ll make you some warm cocoa and see if that helps.” She spoke to the large figure. She got no response to her statement and figured that he was just tired.
Allison began her pace to the door before a noise gained her attention turning around. Benny was slowly rising from his bed and seemed to be untangling his large form. She watched as he slowly crawled off his bed as he was so big he couldn’t even stand up properly. His head floated before his stooped frame with the arms on his back supporting his weight. The ghost said nothing as he moved towards the woman and gently placed his head in her hands. His movements made his intent clear, he was coming with her.
Taking care to not drop his head, Allison carefully left the room and began her journey to the kitchen. She occasionally glanced behind her to see the large almost spider-like headless ghost following behind walking on four out of 6 limbs. If she didn’t know the ghost better she would have been terrified of the sight following her, but she knew better. Benny preferred his 6 limbed, 4 eyed form as it was easier for him to maintain. She couldn’t judge him for his choice and knew that despite his preferred appearance he was still a sweet boy at heart.
A small hum escaped the woman as she entered the kitchen. “I’m gonna set you at the table, is that ok?” her inquiry earned a small hum and nod in her hand.
Gentle hands set Benny’s head on the table while his body found an empty spot at the table and sat on the floor. He was simply too big and awkward to sit at the table properly and Allison hoped that would change once she got something warm in him. She wasted no time in flicking on a light so she could see what she was doing for which she heard an irritated groan from Benny. She chuckled at the ghost’s response as it was clear he wasn’t much of a morning person, but it also didn’t help that he was very tired. It was just amusing to see him trying to lightly shield his head from the glare of the light as her husband does the same thing.
Allison pranced about the kitchen pulling out a jar of cocoa powder, setting it on the table prior to going to the fridge. She pulled out a carton of milk and poured some of its contents into a small skillet, setting it atop the stove to heat it. The remainder of the milk was placed back in the fridge while a small cup of sugar was fetched from the cabinet. She stood before the stove lightly stirring the milk taking care in adding bits of cocoa powder so it wouldn’t clump. Once she was sure she had enough cocoa mixed in she scooped out a spoonful of sugar tossing it in. As the cocoa was warming up she placed the sugar back in the cabinet before grabbing onto 2 mugs, setting them on the table.
The cocoa was allowed to simmer a little bit longer having long since turned a rich brown color. A look of satisfaction graced Allison’s face, promptly turning off the stove gently pouring the warm fluid into the mugs.
“Here sweetie.” Allison nudged Benny’s mug to him, earning his attention.
The woman had to chuckle because it looked like the kid had almost fallen asleep waiting for the cocoa to be ready. A long spindly arm rose to grasp onto the mug slowly pulling it to his head allowing for him to casually sip at the warm beverage. The room was filled with a blissful silence allowing Allison to settle into her seat.
“I’m sorry.” a small voice finally spoke.
The woman looked up from her mug to see Benny staring into his cup. “Sorry about what honey?”
A look of guilt flashed on the pale face looking back at her. “Sorry for waking you. I know you woke up because of me.”
A small sigh escaped Allison as a smile grew on her face. “Honey, that’s what I’m supposed to do. If one of my kids is having a bad night then as a mom I’m supposed to go check on them and try to help.”
“She never helped.” Benny softly mumbled looking glum.
Any other time the comment would have caught Allison off guard, but she knew what the boy had dreamt about and that his past still haunts him.
“Anyone can be a mother.” Allison softly spoke, earning Benny’s attention. “But it takes a real woman to be called ‘mom’. Sadly not many women fit in that category. For some, it’s easier to have a child than it is to raise one.”
“Is that why she left me?” the boy asked. His eyes looking into hers for answers.
“I can’t answer that.” Allison looked upon him with pity. “What ran through her mind is something we will never know. We won’t know why she chose to do what she did.” the woman's words earning a downtrodden expression. “But, what we do know is that she chose to leave behind the most wonderful gift anyone could ask for.”
Confusion danced on Benny’s face at the woman’s comment, unawares as to why she was smiling so warmly. “What do you mean?”
“She left me, you.” The woman’s comment made Benny’s eyes go wide at her statement as she continued. “If she hadn’t done what she did then I wouldn’t have you here with me now. I know you went through a lot on your own, and it should never have happened, but what matters is you’re here with us now. We can’t fix the past, but we can work to make a better future.”
Benny listened to the woman's words before a small smile graced his face. She had a point. His mother wasn’t the best person in the world and while he didn’t deserve what was done to him, nor will he ever truly know why, he has a new family now that cares about his well being. They have been nothing more than supportive despite his questionable behavior and have gone through things with him, no matter how challenging it was.
Allison watched as the large form began to shrink as Benny let out a deep sigh. The glow of his neck dimmed the more his body shrank back down to the normal size she is used to. The little boy she is used to seeing running up and down the halls with her daughter.
“Thank you.” The ghost leaned his head into her chest as he gave her a small hug, having chosen to walk through the table to meet her.
“You’re welcome sweetie.” Allison gently hugged the boy back. “We care about you, and don’t let anything ever make you think otherwise.”
The boy nodded in the women's arms before a small squeak of a yawn escaped him earning a small chuckle from Allison. “Sounds like someone is sleepy.”
“Not sleepy.” Benny huffed trying to stifle another yawn.
“C’mon.” Allsion smiled warmly, gathering up the mugs, placing them in the sink. She escorted the ghost back to his room, opening up the door.
The room had luckily returned to normal say for the toys scattered across the floor. The woman didn’t care as she lightly stepped around them leading Benny to his bed.
“But I’m not sleepy.” Benny whined as he crawled back into his bed laying down with his frog pillow as Allison covered him. The woman wanted to chuckle at the repeated yawns. It was obvious he was fighting sleep.
She said nothing except for a soft gentle hum. The woman hummed as she tucked him in watching the boy’s movements began to slow. By the time she finished tucking him in and covering him with the last blanket, she noticed he had completely stopped moving. She stopped her humming and heard tiny snores from the boy earning a smile. He finally fell asleep and looked so peaceful. Allison lingered in the room to make sure he would be ok and not have a recurring dream, but once she was sure he was in the clear she quietly exited the room closing the door.
Allison let out a small sigh heading down the hallway returning to her bedroom. It pained her that Benny was haunted by his mother’s actions. She would never forgive the woman for hurting such a sweet child, but that was neither here nor there. Benny was in her care now and even if he may never call her ‘mom’ it will not stop her from treating him as if he were her own. He deserves a fresh start and she was determined to be there for him whenever he needed her, because that is what a mother does for their child.
Ghostly Visitor
Benny putting his little friend (later sister) to bed after a night of playing. While he started out really large and warped, over time he shrank down getting smaller and smaller as he was remembering who he once was. He himself remembering that he was once a child like her and that his current appearance isn't desirable anymore. She was helping him remember who he really was, along with healing some of the pain and loneliness he endured.
This was supposed to have been a doodle and it got way out of hand. So much for some quick concept sketches lol.
