And this is all counting shows that I've watched in the past year, year and a half. I've seen plenty of other sitcoms but always on free-to-air tv, never in a binging context, and I was younger then so it's better to refresh my memory. On that note, does anyone know where I might be able to access the sitcom Becker? As far as I can tell, there are DVDs, but it's not on streaming. Any help would be so awesome.

And, on another note, please feel free to speak to me about these shows I have loved all(most) of them. Ted Lasso and Severance in particular because that wound is still fresh...

035. Layer - The Captain/Pat Butcher (BBC Ghosts)

I do really like how in Ghosts (US/UK), as referenced in the Kyle episode (US version, season 4), that the ghosts are obsessed with their deaths and who they were in life. They are characters in a world where they should just be people.

I interpret this as some of the capturing the moment they died thing but I also really like that the older ghosts kind of lose this. Thor, Sass, and Robin (in the UK version) are still a viking, Lenape guy, and a caveman but also they adapt to the modern world a lot better because they're kind of okay whatever about the lives they had.

But I really like this concept with the Captain. He's not really obsessed with his death (which is a good thing, I had such feelings about it) but he is kind of obsessed with who he was in life. But it's not even a ghost thing, it becomes clear that he was also just like that in life. I did not really think about it when watching the show but the sheer amount of autistic Captain tags on ao3 made me go oh.

Weapons are his special interest. Tanks are his trains. Military professionalism is his way of masking. He loves military rations because he gets to eat the same thing every day. He is perfectly content with being a ghost because he can have the same schedule forever. He gets to wear his favorite clothes every day. I love him.

But like also this concept is really good with Issac. Issac breaks away from this character of himself thing by becoming the "gay character," but also he's the only character who gets a hobby not related to who he was in life and his hobby is dinosaurs. And it's referred to that way.
