Maybe I’m overthinking this a little, but I started wondering about something that could happen to Pete Martino at the end of season 5 of Ghosts. This idea came to me after I read the synopsis for the finale and also saw a few recent interviews with Richie Moriarty. On their own those things don’t really seem to say much, but when I start putting everything together… it’s hard not to think about certain possibilities.
In different interviews, Richie mentioned some pretty interesting things about the end of the season. In one he said Pete would do something very out of character. In another he said Pete is going to take a big risk. And in another he mentioned that he’s curious to see how the cliffhanger will be resolved next season. On top of that, I also saw an article saying the finale will probably leave fans coming up with theories. So it definitely feels like something important happens there.
At the same time, the season itself brought up two very specific moments involving Pete. There was that road trip with Sam where, during a moment of frustration while Pete kept talking nonstop trying to cheer things up, Sam ended up saying she sometimes wished he would just disappear. She immediately realized what she said, apologized, and in the end they managed to get help and make it back to Woodstone in time.
Later on there’s also a moment where Thorfinn brings up the time Pete crossed oceans to help him. If the fandom remembers, that was actually the moment Pete came the closest to disappearing completely because he was away from the property for too long.
So when I put those two reminders from the season together with what Richie said in those interviews (Pete doing something out of character, taking a big risk, and the finale ending on a cliffhanger), I can’t help but think about one possibility. Maybe while trying to help save Woodstone, Pete ends up going too far… and the episode leaves it implied that he might have fallen into oblivion because he couldn’t make it back to the mansion in time.
That said, I really hope I’m wrong about this, but at the same time I just can’t get this idea out of my head after those comments from Richie.
And now I keep thinking about one more thing: if something like that actually happens… how is my baby girl Alberta going to react to it?
