MEET LUNA MARTINS (Written by Nikki)
Introducing Luna Martins, also known as fellow blogger; ghoulsprout. She is an aspiring artist that has been a part of Tumblr for the past 5 years. I got the chance to interview the lovely artist; here is the interview! :
Q. Where do you think your creativity comes from?
There are so many sources that aid in getting my creative juices flowing, I think it’d be hard to name all of them. It could be something as simple as the corner of a building, the way someone smiles, cries or laughs- even if I only catch a glimpse of them from a window or a train. Music and sounds, though, are a bigger and recurring contributor to my creativity. Different genres of music build different atmospheres, different auras. To me, songs have color in them, they have patterns and elements, all of which I do my best to arrange together so they come alive in a visual form. I find it difficult to draw and paint without at least some music playing.
Q. If you could hang out with any artist, who would it be and why?
I would have to say Sang Woo Kim. His drawing style reminds me of Picasso’s own, and I love the way he works with lines to relay a feeling or express how he envisions a place or person, and they entwine and overlap and build up in such a simple yet complex and beautifully arranged manner- I adore his style. I would love to spend time with him, get a glimpse of how he envisions the world, watch him in his element. I think I’d be able to learn a lot from him, he’s truly someone I admire.
Q. What kind of art appeals to you?
I definitely appreciate all kinds of art forms and mediums, as I know how much time can be spent on expressing a single idea in a physical, audio and/or visual manner, but I must say drawings have always stuck out to me (and maybe it is biased of me to say this, considering it is my main medium). Whether it is minimalist or extremely intricate, black and white, monochromatic, or screaming out “I’m alive!” in full color, I have great affection for this medium. I do love paintings, as well, they’re gorgeous and flow in their own way, but drawings are home to me.
Q. What’s your favourite artwork (of your own)?
This is a very hard question, they’re all my children, and I feel as if choosing a favorite child would probably be one of the most unfair and tough acts. I do have a few I am really fond of and might my ego dare to say, proud of, but I can’t choose one single artwork, especially since I find I am always growing, or improving in regards to my techniques, use of color, etc. I don’t usually title my works, but these are examples of ones that I hold dear to me. (Example: 1 & 2 both of which are shown).
Q. Do you wish to pursue a career involving art or is it a hobby?
I have always kept an art driven career in mind, up until now it has been only a very active hobby of mine, though I do have intentions to carry out a more professional approach to it in the very near future. At the moment, the only places my art is being posted on are my Instagram, Snapchat, and Tumblr, though I am thinking of investing more time in building myself a name and gaining more exposure to see where it all leads my artworks and myself to. I think I’ll never stop drawing regardless of it becoming a career or staying a hobby. It is my passion.
