Luke wasn’t used to the Admiral laughing -- at least not when it wasn’t in the immediate throes of battle at any rate-- and a Mon Calamari laugh was something else entirely.  Even if he wanted to, Luke couldn’t help but smile, though he tried to hide it by ducking his head at the gentle ribbing.  

“I think you’re right, Admiral.” He agrees- not just because it is one of his own personal philosophies, but also because of the admiration he has for the elder leader.  Ackbar was reknown for his courage and determination, fearlessness and resourcefulness-- but all that aside, he never considered the people under him to be expendable...  even beyond that, Ackbar had been known to take cheer in the same things his people did; from victories, to small trivial jokes.  The latter was rare, to be sure, but endearing none the less. 

Luke could only hope that he made as fine and balanced a leader as Ackbar.  

“I like to think of it as something of a compliment.”

“It’s strange,”  Luke confides.  The briefing has long broken up, but somehow he finds himself lingering, chatting casually with Ackbar whom he had always looked up to as a leader.  To be included among such prestigious company was proving a little difficult for the young-- and most newly appointed-- General. 

“It’s feels like-- like nothing fits properly,” And he wasn’t simply talking about the tan uniform with its crisp shoulders, high collar and collar pins, or even about the chest plate sporting five dots in an X pattern to designate his new rank.  He’s pensive, staring out of the bridge of Home One at the Justice not far away; waiting for him to arrive by shuttle to continue on their way after the High Command briefing.  

“Do you mind if I ask you a personal question, Admiral?” He asks, still focused out at the ship ahead, “Does it get easier?”

“It really doesn’t matter if it does work or not, we have to keep going.” He’s increasing speed, quickly looking back at the imperial storm troopers pursuing them. “I’ll figure out a way around it, don’t worry. I got this.”
