“I hate you so much right now, Ace,” Julius muttered to the brunette standing right beside him as he handed him the up the last of the decorations. He was still bitter or the fact that Ace had signed him up for to be staff at this ridiculously frivolous school dance. If it were not for the fact that Alice was looking forward to the event, and it would be canceled without at least four staff members, he would be where he would much rather be: home.
Ace laughed at his friends pain, genuinely enjoying his discomfort, as per usual. As he stepped off the ladder he wrapped an arm around the taller boy’s shoulders. “You love me.”
Julius brushed him off and headed back over to the next thing they were supposed to be doing. “No. I really don’t.”
“That hurts Julius. Really. You’re going to make me cry,” Ace replied grinning at his friends back hands crossed behind his head.
“Cry then.”
A frown spread across the brunette’s face as he dropped his hands. “Wow. You’re so mean to me today. You know if you’re that mean to Alice she’s going to go run off to Blood. They seem pretty friendly.”
“Maybe I would be less mean to you if you actually helped pay the rent,” Julius snapped when they got over to the folding tables.
Genuinely displeased by implication of what his roommate was saying Ace said, “Hey I—”
“Don’t even,” Julius said cutting him off.
Without having to explain it they both knew Julius was still mad about Ace losing the delivery job they had been trying to support themselves with because he got lost, again, and decided to just eat the pizza. Later, when asked, he said he didn’t want it to go to waste. This meant Julius had to work even more than he already did, and he hadn’t slept in at least 48 hours. So he was cranky, and on top of that Ace had signed him up for this asinine event.
Sighing, Julius glanced over at the girl who had only started here a few weeks ago but had become instantly popular with most of the male population of their small school. He’d actually met her on their lunch break the first day she’d been introduced. Apparently she was looking for a place to hide from Peter, a childhood friend of hers, and had, by accident, hid in the same room Julius spent most of his lunch break working on repairs in. She put him off balance when she didn’t immediately flee when he told her to leave. Normally, his standoffish nature, or reputation for his work, made people leave him alone. Unless they were Ace, and there was something legitimately wrong with that one. Though he’d never admit it to Alice’s face, he was fond of her, even if he complained about the fact that she nagged him to eat even going so far as to bring him lunch just so she knew he’d eaten. She was popular though, and had other friends, better ones, who could, and would enjoy, spending time with her in the capacity suiting a girl her age, like this damned party. He did not know where Vivaldi, their school president, though she might as well be their queen, came up with a Valentine Day party but it was an awful one.
“Alice can do what she wants,” Julius muttered as he unfolded a table. “And I don’t need love advice from you of all people.”
Ace smirked so wide Julius could feel it before he looked up. “Who said anything about “love advice”?” Ace said sounding naive despite his grin.
Julius paled and glared at Ace. “Sh-shut up Ace!”
Before Ace had a chance to respond they both heard, “What does Ace need to shut up about?”
Both turned to see Alice standing there holding table cloths.
“A-Alice!” Julius said surprised to see her. Hadn’t she just been standing over with the Hatter crowd? He could just feel Ace about to say something so he gave him this look.
For once in his life Ace just grinned and walked away, wandering over to go bother Vivaldi who seemed to be having a helluva time getting things to run smoothly with Nightmare vomiting blood everywhere.
“Did you need something?” Julius said in a tone that implied Alice had better have a good reason to bother him.
Alice bristled slightly but held up the table cloths out. “Vivaldi said to bring these over.”
“Oh. Leave them there. I’ll get them,” he said as he got the last table open.
Alice frowned and seemed a bit uncomfortable. Instead of leaving she picked one up and began to unfold it. “I’ll help you.”
Julius, having realized she was the stubbornest creature on this earth, said, “Do what you want.”
After a few long moments of silence Alice finally said, “Um…Julius.
“Yes.”
“Are you actually going to this party or?”
Julius sighed. “I wasn’t planning on it. But unfortunately now I have to go because someone signed me up.”
Alice was smiling slightly and Julius didn’t understand it so he chose to ignore it.
“I’m glad you’re coming,” Alice said softly as they finished spreading the last one.
“You..are?” Julius said genuinely confused, and surprised, and oddly enough flattered.
Alice seemed flustered because she added, “Well… yeah we’re friends and all aren’t we? And Ace would be insufferable if you weren’t here.”
Julius sighed. He wouldn’t deny the truth of that statement but it was sort of a let down after…anyway. “Ngh I don’t want to even think about the damage he’d cause.”
Both glanced at the brunette giving grief to the dark haired boy trying to help the still vomiting Nightmare. No one believe that Nightmare was the Vice President unless they saw the paper work.
It seemed everything had been done for the day so Julius said goodbye to Alice before going over and grabbing Ace. He’d see her later tonight for the actual event anyway. When he collected the younger boy, Ace was curious about how their little chat went. Julius informed him and Ace sighed, audibly.
“You are so hopeless,” he said before laughing.
Choosing to ignore that comment for the better part of his sanity Julius dragged Ace home since they’d never get there if he let the other lead.

Many hours later, Julius stood unfortunately not alone against a wall not nearly far enough from the punch bowl, or booming speakers for his liking. Ace, looking more like a womanizer than ever in his white suit, stood next to him drinking God only knows what out of a container he’d brought with him. He could never understand how he could just drink and not get ill. Not even once. It was inhuman.
“Want some?” Ace asked when he saw Julius staring at him.
“No,” Julius said brushing him off, again.
Ace pouted. “You’re no fun.”
“You dragged me here. What did you think I was going to be? Excited?”
Ace sighed and rolled his eyes at his friend. “You need to lighten up. It’s just one drink. Liquid courage. Then you can go chat it up with Alice, and maybe get lucky.”
Julius closed his eyes as if not looking at Ace would make him go away. He hadn’t seen Alice all night actually and was honestly worried she wasn’t coming. The event was painful enough, not having half the reason he was trapped here on the premises was making it intolerable. “Fine,” he relented sticking his hand out for the decision he already knew he was going to regret.
Ace had the good sense not to give Julius too much crap as he handed him the bottle and Julius took a few swallows. The liquid burned, and he had no idea why Ace found this good tasting. It was revolting, and left a burning sensation he wasn’t fond of in his face. Figuring it might improve with another sip he downed more before he heard Ace say, “Oh hi Alice.”
Julius spit out what he hadn’t finished and coughed as he quickly hid the bottle the best he could in his sleeve. “A-Alice. Hi,” he got out when his lungs were clear.
Alice looked concerned asked as she asked, “Are you ok?’
“I’m fine,” Julius said as he waved off her concern. Oh that did not feel right. He should not have done that.
“Here. Have some of this,” Alice said as she handed Julius some punch.
Figuring that might make him feel better he took it and drank some. He was very wrong. Ace had gotten to it.
Where was Ace anyway? He was being weirdly quiet. Julius glanced over to find empty space. The boy had abandoned him with the bottle and Alice. Great.
“Hey are you sure you’re ok?” Alice asked again more concerned now.
“Alice, I’m really fine. I’m just..I’m good.”
She didn’t seem to believe him but let it go. “If you say so.”
“I do,” he said nodding. Ok he should not do that again. The world was spinning a little.
After a few minutes Alice said, “Julius, would you want to dance.”
He honestly was even sure he could at this point, and on any other occasion he wouldn’t want to, but right now he didn’t even care. “Sure. Why not.”
Alice seemed surprised and asked again, “Are you sure you’re ok?”
“Yes,” he said as he took her hand and led her over to the loud throng of bodies. Whatever happened he’d blame Ace for later.
This is my gift for harvestlight441. Sorry it’s late I had a mental breakdown las week, but I really hope you like it, even though it’s so short.
This is what they’d like:
Characters: Alice, Julius, Boris, Eliot, Dee & Dum Request: Humor, fluff (If the author wants to make it an AU it’s ok)
Would NOT like to see: Smut, Tragedy
Alice was lying on the couch at home; it was Valentine’s Day, which obviously made her depressed, considering her atrocious inability to attract anyone from the opposite sex. There was that one guy, she had considered dating him, but things had kinda gone down hill in the last week and Alice didn’t exactly know why.
“Maybe he just wasn’t that into me…” she whispered.
The boy that had had her mad for the last few months was named Elliot, and he was a serious troublemaker. That’s what had made Alice reluctant at first, she had no business with the school gang, apart from them being notoriously known for being womanizers. Yet Elliot had struck her as different, she couldn’t help answer Elliot texts after he had somehow gotten her cellphone number.
Talking of cellphone it suddenly started beeping, new messages.

Alice threw her phone away angry, but instantly regretted it and picked it up.
“Sorry baby it’s not your fault”
She lay down once again and fell asleep. She must have been sleeping a good half an hour when a booming noise from outside.
Hey, hey, hey ,hey
Ohhh…
Won’t you come see about me?
I’ll be alone, dancing you know it baby
What? Her favorite song playing outside her house? She stood up and looked through the window.
Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out and
Love’s strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on
There was Elliot, holding an old school boom box smiling. He lowered the volume a bit
Slow change may pull us apart
When the light gets into your heart, baby
“You’re an asshole!” Alice told him. “You know that?”
“I do sweet heart”
Don’t You Forget About Me
Don’t Don’t Don’t Don’t
Don’t You Forget About Me
Will you stand above me?
Look my way, never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down
Will you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down, down
Don’t you try to pretend
It’s my feeling we’ll win in the end
I won’t harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security
This man was gonna be the death of her, she was certain. She climbed or the window and walked towards Elliot who looked happier that ever.
Don’t you forget about me
I’ll be alone, dancing you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I’ll put us back together at heart, baby
“I love you” he said
Don’t You Forget About Me
Don’t Don’t Don’t Don’t
Don’t You Forget About Me
“I know” Alice answered.
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
When you walk away
Or will you walk away?
Will you walk on by?
Come on - call my name
Will you call my name?
Maybe Valentines wasn’t such a bad holiday, Alice thought to herself as she and Elliot rode off on his motorcycle.
I was asked for fluff/kawaii, so here’s a translated video of one very cute Nightmare/Alice scene from his route in the Joker no Kuni no Alice game. I hope you like it, cristikirtas! ^o^ I’ll also leave a dailymotion mirror link just in case.
