my day today
woke up early & made an appointment with my dentist to have my wisdom tooth removed. It had a cavity & was starting to give me problems. I also had to call in to work to tell them I wouldn’t be coming in today. The woman on the other end was being bitchy, so I didn’t feel too bad about missing work.
My friend picked me up, drove me to the dentist, & we sat in the waiting room for a while. Soon the nurse called me in, got me in a chair, & numbed me up. Hardly felt the anesthetic shot. Nervous, but so far so good. They had to crack my tooth & half. aside from the noise & the smell that part wasn’t completely awful, thanks to the anesthetic. The horrible part came when he tried to “pull“ my tooth. There wasn’t a lot of pain, but someone digging & scraping at your tooth is incredibly stressful.
He got the first half out, but said he couldn’t continue because of my moving & screaming. Even with 4 shots of anesthetic it’s very uncomfortable to have someone pressing down on your jaw like they’re trying to break it. So because he couldn’t finish, he had to send me to a specialist who could put me to sleep (no gauze to stop the bleeding, just practically gave me the card & paperwork and sent me away). Unfortunately, the information he gave was outdated, so we were referred again to someone that could actually help.
My friend drove me to the dentist’s office & after filling out the paperwork in the waiting room, they lead me to the back. After some questions, financial info, a consent form, & more waiting, he finally took me to operating room: another dentist’s chair. Took my blood pressure, & hooked me up to a heart monitor, then more waiting. After that the fun part started. Fortunately I was already half asleep & had an IV placed in my hand prior to the surgery, so I don’t remember what happened after that.
I waking up in my friend’s car & we picked up my medication & went back to her house, where she fed me & helped me take my meds. After a few hours of watching movies she took me home. :3
I survived my first surgery, hate my job even more now, & have a dentist I never want to go back to.
