Pairing: Oscar Piastri x student!reader
Summary: After experiencing what might be the worst possible day of your life, all you want to do is forget about it, especially the guy who spilt his coffee on you. But Oscar, battling guilt and intrigue, goes out of his way to make you forgive him.
A/N: I’ve been thinking about writing this for a week but I had a exam that was keeping me from writing it. I’m trying to add a bit more writing parts to it to give a bit more of a feel of the characters but I’m not sure how much I like that yet. Hopefully this is as fun as I imagined it to be! Feel free to tell me what you think! Oh and thank you so much for 100 followers!!

To say you were having a bad day would be an understatement. You woke up bright and early at 6 am, like you always did, to get in your morning walk with Bear, your dog. Even though you double checked your weather app twice before leaving, your walk was ruined by rain, to the detriment of both you and Bear. You spent an extra fifteen minutes warming him up and cleaning both his paws and your shoes.
After a necessary but icky shower, you ended up burning your toast and had to settle for an apple, terrified of missing the bus. It took you lacing up your shoes to realize your socks were mismatched. On the walk to the bus stop, you convinced yourself it was trendy while narrowly missing the splash from a car driving through a puddle. A ten minute wait turned into thirty, and the bus driver spent half of it arguing with an old man over the fare.
By the time you raced up the stairs to your 8 am lab, tripping halfway with red palms to prove it, you had a vendetta against the world. The three hour lab dragged forever, probably because one of your lab partners spent most of it asking why “no girls would go out with me”. At that point, you were hoping the world would take you and him out together.
Now, finally, you sit in your favorite seat at your favorite cafe, flipping through your notebook and trying to make sense of the material for your upcoming exam. The buzz of your phone snaps you back to reality, reminding you that you’ve overstayed your allotted break. You have ten minutes to get back to campus.
You jump to your feet, slinging your bag over your shoulder and clutching your folded notebook to your chest, not even bothering to put it away. You move past people, silently wondering why it’s so packed today. You’re almost out the door when you’re met with the broad back of a man.
You step to the right in an attempt to squeeze past him, only for him to move the same way.
Not in the mood for whatever this was about to become, you clear your throat. “Excuse me.”
Thinking that was enough, you try again to move past, but instead, he turns directly into you. His coffee cup crumples in collision, spilling all over you. You stare down in both disbelief and disgust, barely registering the multiple “I’m sorry”s being thrown at you.
Your eyes snap up to meet the culprit. He looks apologetic but not nearly enough. He’s holding out a bunch of tissues, clearly unsure how to help without crossing a line, mumbling a whole lot of nonsense and looking completely lost. You try your best to stay calm, but when the lukewarm coffee begins seeping into your bra, all reason leaves you.
“…I didn’t expect you to be right there,” he says, reaching out like he might dab the notebook.
“Maybe if you practiced some sort of spatial awareness, we wouldn’t fucking be here!”
His eyebrows shoot up and he blinks. He opens his mouth, then shuts it again, which makes you even more mad. His eyes drop to your notebook, and yours follow. The ink is bleeding through the pages, the edges curling brown and soggy. He swallows hard and looks back at you.
“That’s not fixing anything, is it?”
“Okay… what can I do to fix this, then? Here— take my jacket.”
He swiftly takes off his jacket and holds it out. His cheeks are slightly red with embarrassment, but his voice remains unwavering and calm. You finally notice the people watching, including your favorite barista, who gives you a small, sympathetic smile and a nod towards the door.
You take a deep breath and look back at him. “Just watch where you’re going.”
You brush past him, your arm grazing the jacket, with the small amount of dignity left in you. Outside, you check your phone. You’re late. Class has already started. You glance toward your usual route to campus, then turn on your heel and head towards the nearest bus stop, the prominent smell of coffee trailing behind you.
What a great fucking day.

celebritygossip Formula One driver, Oscar Piastri was spotted today at a local cafe in Monaco. The driver spilt his coffee on a girl who did not spare him. We wonder if the golden boy will ever be able to show his face in that cafe again.

You groan for probably the fifth time as you push your textbook across the table in frustration. To your left you see your best friend aggressively highlighting her textbook, bringing your attention back to yours. Fed up with your education, or maybe just life itself, you set your glasses down and dramatically fold your arms, resting your head on the table.
You let out an inaudible murmur, prompting your best friend to stroke your hair. “I know honey, I know,” she says.
It was about five minutes later when the stroking stops and you feel your best friend lean closer to your ear. “I’m either going insane or Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris just walked into the library.
His name set off alarms in your head, making you almost comically sit up. And surely enough, walking around your local library are two Formula One drivers looking as lost as one of your friends in the frozen meat section of a supermarket. The two men finally spot you two and you subconsciously fix your hair. They’re dressed in hoodies and sweatpants, though Lando’s also wearing a baseball cap.
Your best friend whispers under her breath, “Relax.”
“Act normal,” you shoot back.
“When am I ever not normal?”
You’re about to name one of the many instances when the men arrive at your table. Lando smiles is wide and mischievous smile, while Oscar’s is polite and small. His eyes meet yours.
“Hello!” Your best friend pipes up, causing all three of you to look at her. “I like to be included.”
Lando grin. “Well, hello! I also would love to be included.”
You look at him in confusion, then turn back to Oscar, not exactly sure what to say.
“You said that already, mate.” Lando nudges his arm with his. “Come on, say something smooth.”
“Shut up”, Oscar murmurs.
“Hey, you’re Lando, right? I’m __, and we are going to walk away and let these two do… whatever this is.” Your best friend stands up. You shoot her a panicked glance, silently begging her to stay, but she ignores it, hooking her arm with Lando’s and pulling him away.
“But the romance…” he whines as he reluctantly follows.
You fiddle with one of the rings on your finger, suddenly hyper aware that it’s just you and Oscar now. He plays with the strap of the bag he’s holding. You think of something to say, then it finally hits you.
“What are you doing here? How did you even know I was here?”
He chuckles nervously. “Well about that…”
Oscar explains Lando’s pretty insane idea to visit the cafe every day around the same time in hopes of catching you. Apparently, today they had arrived just as left, so when they saw you walking back to the library, Lando simply followed. The two of them sat in his teammate’s car debating whether this was a terrible idea until Lando finally pestered him enough to come in.
As you listen to him explain himself, you notice his accent and the small constellation of moles spread across his face. You find yourself curiously wanting to trace them. It’s surprising you didn’t notice it when you first met, but then again, you were too pissed to notice anything about him.
You realize he’s stopped speaking. “You know this is insane, right? You basically admitted to stalking me. Why did you even want to find me?”
“To apologize and give you this.” He hands over the shopping bag, placing it gently on the table.
You eye it curiously. “What is it? Coffee beans? Something clever?”
“Uh no. Unless that’s what you would want.” He rubs his arm. “I honestly wasn’t sure what to get, so feel free to send me off with this if it’s not enough.”
You stand up and cautiously take a look into the bag. Your jaw drops. “You got me an iPad?“
“Yes. And the accessories too.”
You set the box down gently and pull out the Apple Pencil and iPad case. You look at him in complete shock. “Is this some kind of joke?”
“No. No, of course not.” He says quickly, his eyes scanning your face to gauge your reaction. “Is it too much? Or too little?”
“Why would you get me this?”
“Well”, he scratches the back of his neck. “I felt— feel—bad about ruining your notes and I knew I couldn’t get that back. Simply replacing the notebook seemed too small, so I thought, why not get you another way to take notes? Do you like it?”
You look at him to the iPad, then back at him. “Yeah… I do. I feel like I should say I can’t accept this, but I really need it, so I’m going to trust that you’re a decent enough guy expect anything in return. So urm… thanks.”
“I promise you I won’t ask for anything. You’re welcome.”
You sit slowly, still staring at the box. “Who would have thought one of the worst days of my life would lead to the guy leading the Formula One championship giving me an iPad?”
Oscar smiles. “Oh, so you know about that, huh?”
“Yeah.” You finally look up at him. “I didn’t know when we first met though, I doubt that would’ve changed anything. But after, the incident caught a bit of traction online, I found out. Did some research. Not to mention, some of your fans found me.
Oscar’s smile faltered slightly. “They didn’t bother you, did they?”
“No, they just mass liked my instagram posts and left a couple comments. Some of them are pretty funny, actually.”
“Good good”, he chuckles. “At least you didn’t go on twitter.”
You perk up, flipping your hair over your shoulder. “Oh I went on twitter.”
Oscar groans, tilting his head back and covering his eyes with his hand. “I don’t even want to ask what you saw.” He moves peaks through his fingers. “What did you see?”
“A lot. Cool fanart, some moving edits, very few thirst traps. I watched a couple of your highlights too. Pretty eye opening, half of the people on there think you’re the second coming of Christ, and the other thinks you’re the literal Antichrist.”
He studies you for a moment, then asks,“What do you think?”
“What do I think?” You pause for dramatic effect. You trail your eyes down his body, trying to make him feel judged but also possibly checking him out. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t find the Aussie attractive. “I think you’re the guy who spilled coffee on me.”
He shakes his head, a smile tugging at his lips. “Come on, I thought we were past that.”
“I fear we will never get past that, Piastri.”
“Right, of course. This sin will follow me for eternity.”
“But really, what do you think?”
You smile cunningly. “I think you’re pretty decent.”
“Decent?” He repeats, almost offended.
“Yeah. I’m assuming you must be good enough to lead the championship. But according to some parts of twitter, you’re just lucky to have a good car.”
He raises an eyebrow. “And that’s what you think?”
“Mhm. Did you want me to say you’re great? Do you think you’re great?”
He looks at you, his eyes sparkling with amusement. You notice the way he presses his tongue against the inside of his cheek—an action you find weirdly attractive. He crosses his arms.
“Well, I thought I was pretty good,” he says finally. “But I guess I’m decent. Thanks for breaking the news to me.”
“You’re so welcome. I just thought you deserved to know, you know?”
“Of course. Really appreciate it.” He smiles again, his eyes searching your face in a way that makes you feel a little too seen.
The two of you fall into a comfortable silence. It’s his turn to take you in. You feel like you’re under a microscope, his gaze respectful but curious, lingering just long enough to make your pulse quicken. He looks like he’s about to say something when Lando reappears, wrapping an arm around his shoulder, as your best friend sits back down.
“Sorry to ruin on this beautiful moment but we’ve got to go. Pretty sure I just got spotted,” Lando explains.
“Oh.” Oscar’s shoulders deflate slightly, though he still smiles as he looks at you. “I guess we’re leaving.”
You try to ignore the tug in your chest. “Okay. Thanks for the iPad.”
“You’re welcome”, he says softly. “Sorry again about the coffee.”
“Apology accepted. Now you don’t have to go out of your way to see me again.”
“Right.” You’re not sure if your brain is messing with you or if you genuinely heard a hint of disappointment in his voice. “Well, good luck with school.”
“Good luck with… driving.”
He nods awkwardly, avoiding your eyes. You mirror him, settling into silence.
Beside you, your best friend and Lando share a look.
“This is painfully awkward. We are going now. Say bye, Osc,” Lando says.
Oscar meets your eyes. “Bye.”
“Bye,” you reply quietly.
Lando frowns at the lackluster goodbye but waves anyway, steering Oscar out of the library. You watch them leave, a strange sadness washing over you as your gaze drops to the gift on the table.
A few minutes later, in his car, Lando looks at his teammate. “Well, did you get her number?”
Oscar looks defeated. “I don’t even think I asked her name.”
Lando’s jaw drops. “You’re such a lost cause.”
He unlocks his phone, tosses it at Oscar and starts the car. “Luckily for you, I got her friend’s insta, so you could probably find her on there. Unluckily for me, her friend’s gay, but she said she can see my appeal, so that’s a win.”
Oscar completely ignores the last part, scrolling through her friend’s page, searching for a picture of his coffee girl.
