Okay I'm at chapter 19 of Gilberts route and DUDE.

That stupid ass back and forth. I would get so frustrated with trying to explain myself to him and his dumb ass retorts that I would just angrily grab him by the collar, kiss him roughly, let go of him, push him, and huff about how much of a stubborn fucking ass he is and storm out of the room.

Forever pouty over the lost opportunity of having Gilbert's fursona animal crest be a crow/raven.

Like, I get why they made it a black tiger. They wanted him and Chevalier to have a sort of "enemies that parallel or mirror each other" kind of relationship - they are similar, but not exactly alike. Both are renowned for being merciless, strategic, and determined princes of genius intellect. Their conflict against each other is almost like two chess players - both trying to determine their opponent's next move so that they can be three steps ahead.

And since Chevalier's animal crest is already a tiger (which are known for their hunting prowess, strength, and ferocity), it makes sense to have Gilbert's also be a tiger, but different. Thus, their animal crests mimic the traditional colours of chess pieces (white and black), as well as reflect their personalities - Chevalier the cold, white tiger, Gilbert the cruel, black tiger, together in an endless game of trying to outmaneuver the other to come out on top.

But I just can't help but think how crows/ravens just fit so well with Gilbert's reputation and character.

Corvids are often seen as symbols of war and death in various cultures, which fits well with Obsidian's reputation of being a war mongering nation and their military prowess, as well as Gilbert's own reputation as the Conquering Beast. Corvids are also known for being highly intelligent and capable of creating and using their own tools. This works perfectly with Gilbert's genius intellect, especially with how he's made many advancements in Obsidian's military and agricultural technology.

In addition, crows are capable of recognizing human faces and holding grudges, and will often attack someone who has done them wrong. Similarly, Gilbert is shown to hold grudges and violently retaliates against anyone who even tries to harm Emma.

Also, think of the fashion possibilities! Gilbert wearing corvid-inspired fashion and accessories, such as black feathers sewn into his cloak for max intimidation and coolness. Gilbert designing Emma's black dress to have matching black feathers sewn into a sheer cloak attached to the sleeves so that, when she opens her arms out, it looks like she has black wings.

Also also, crows are said to sometimes give humans random trinkets as presents, so I just think it would be hilarious if Gilbert occasionally gave Emma random junk as gifts.

Gilbert: Here my little rabbit, a little something of appreciation for the cookies you made for me lat night. Gilbert: *drops a pebble in her hand* Gilbert: I found this pebble on the side of the road. I thought it looked neat, so I want to to have it. Emma: Oh, um ... Gilbert: You either accept my gift, or I force you to accept my gift. Emma: Wow Prince Gilbert, thank you! I will treasure this pebble forever!

Just ... Gilbert and corvids, man. The possibilities.
