gilberto had never been good at hiding when he liked someone.

his teammates noticed it immediately.

every time you showed up to watch training, his posture straightened. every time you laughed, he smiled without even realizing it. and whenever you congratulated him after a match, he spent the rest of the day replaying the conversation in his head.

"just talk to her," one of his teammates groaned.

"i do talk to her."

"two sentences doesn't count."

gilberto rolled his eyes and kicked a ball toward the goal.

the truth was that talking to you was easy.

it was everything else that wasn't.

the way his heart sped up when you sat beside him. the way he suddenly forgot what he was about to say whenever you smiled at him. the way he found himself searching for you in every crowd.

after one of his matches, you waited near the tunnel like always.

he jogged over, slightly out of breath.

"you played really well today."

"you think so?"

you laughed. "gilberto, you scored."

"right. good point."

his awkward answer made you smile even wider.

for a moment, neither of you said anything.

then you held out a small bracelet made from blue and red thread.

"i made this for you."

gilberto stared at it.

"for me?"

you nodded nervously.

his face immediately softened.

without hesitation, he slipped it onto his wrist.

"i'm never taking this off."

your cheeks warmed.

"you don't have to wear it all the time."

"yes, i do."

you both laughed.

and as you walked beside him toward the parking lot, shoulders brushing together every few steps, gilberto thought that maybe his teammates were right.

maybe he should finally tell you how he felt.

but not today.

today, walking next to you was already enough.
