In Hindsight…

I feel extremely bad for The Pranksters. I know they were written to be obvious villains, but something about them tells me that they really were misunderstood. Here’s some of my top moments in which I’ve pitied The Pranksters more than the titular company.

Danny Rebus:

“Unmuffins” - Is there anything to say that hasn’t been said? There’s huge ethical implications of even eating these treats. Undanny being treated like a god for being good while his original form was just a menace? Apparently being yourself was not acceptable according to the “Heroes.” Not cool.

“Oh Danny Boy” - This was another on-the-nose example, but I understand Danny’s friendship situation. The All-Or-Nothing thing is a huge problem when it comes to me too. But can you blame him? I have a feeling this may stem from major trust issues he may have, that and his need for external validation may prove this.

Manny Spamboni:

“Mighty Bright Fight” - To be honest, I feel Manny was duped in some sense. He was tricked into becoming friends with Jessica and a possible Skeleckian… but then Stan Flea showed up. Was this planned this whole time, and what I mean by that, was this staged to expose Manny’s villainous side for the episode?

“Mighty Bright Knight” - I dunno. I just feel bad for him after it was obvious Jessica would win the competition that the comic book guy gave out.

Annie Scrambler:

“Scrambled Brains” - Yep, an obvious pick. Credit to ProPranksterPropaganda for pointing out the fact that Annie was basically in extreme pain after being messed with in her worst enemy’s body. Now I’m sad at this moment. To quote Annie herself… “I WANT MY BODY BACK NOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!”

“Spooky Summer Soirée” - I was just mad at this particular moment. Even with help from Gilda, Annie still was laughed at because of her fashion sense. Look, I have no expertise in social-emotional learning, but you should NEVER make fun of someone’s appearance. (And that’s what most of the population did. Shame on them. And shame on The Electric Company too.)

Francine Carruthers:

(I will enter a bit of HC territory. You have been warned.)

“Goodnight Robot” - No kidding, I actually cried during this episode. The very end of it shattered my nonexistent heart to pieces. The way Antigone wanted to do something for her daughter, and the fact the ending and flashback implies Fran and Antigone were and now are close… geez. Now, for the headcanoned part. The sad thing is, is that I believe Francine’s father to be dead. This must have crushed Antigone and as a result, she developed those greedy and envious habits because of pure grief alone, and the fact she wanted the best for her daughter and did what she could to protect her. That, and I believe Francine looked up to this father figure and was even more crushed as a result.

“A Whole New Francine” - Look, I know the episode had minimal depth, but I decided to overanalyze it anyway. I have a feeling this episode may have delved into Francine’s past a tad bit. Remember how she mouthed along to the “We Got Skills” song in the first episode? Well, implied by what The Electric Company said in the falling action, Francine may have been ousted and that “two year period” may have been a punishment in some sense. In general though, I just feel bad because again, her past, and also the fact the teacher just treats her like garbage. (This was also the first episode I ever watched of the new series.) Do you suppose perhaps a desire for control may have played a part in Francine wanting to join The Electric Company?

Gilda Flip:

“The Incredible Return-A-Ball” - I can’t pinpoint a specific reason I feel bad for her here. Being surrounded by a mob of angry people must have been scary for her. That, and the realization that people would turn against her as well must have also been terrifying, knowing enemies would surround her at all times.

“Spooky Summer Soirée” - Same reason as Annie. I feel bad for the fact she wanted to recognized but was gawked at like an animal in a cage.

Yeah. I feel a lot of things here. But in general, now I’m seeing the series in kind of a more sad light. False Heroes and False Villains. Stuff like that. I suppose I don’t have much else to say than maybe I should share some HCs regarding how The Pranksters get a bit of a power boost.

Thanks to Pecharunt’s poisoning, it’s possible now for all of The Pranksters to boost their stats at any time, though only for singular battles. However, there’s something a bit more potent in store. The fact memories alone can grant strength.

When remembering what troubled her, Francine’s eyes will glow a terrifying gold, and her wordballs gain the ability to cause passive damage to anyone unfortunate enough to encounter her. They say sticks and stones break bones. But in this case, words LITERALLY hurt more. (i also should probably state Fran’s Cedillas can damage multiple targets before dissipating.)

Powered by the fury of the public ignoring her, Annie’s eyes will glow purple, and her earthquake ability becomes powered up to around Richter 7.0-7.9 (Major.) Her hypnosis ability is also powered up too, and the polka dot crystals are able to manipulate a single subject for their entire lifetime.

Through sheer will, Manny’s eyes glow red and temporarily, a superpower will be present in him, that being a slightly boosted version of his handiness. Not only can he make devices within the blink of an eye, but he can also destroy anything too. (Safely though. He’d rather keep the resources of whatever he decides to take down in tact.)

Fueled by rage, Danny’s eyes glow orange, and with that, his Rebus puzzles not only become the most complex things in existence, but also… if solved, they can summon pivotal moments from various pieces of literature.

If fear were to take over, Gilda’s eyes glow blue, and with that, not only can she just inherit basically any of her friends’ powered up abilities, but she also gains a temporary extra ability too. I cite the interview with Gilda for this, but now she can completely erase the memories of people she doesn’t like.

Here’s also a remedy to this too. Only Sigmund and Sandy know this, but to stop each of the powered Pranksters, they’ll need to remember the good parts of their lives. (That and maybe a couple of Psychic type attacks will do given the poor special defenses.)

Anyways, that’s the end of this ted talk. I need a nap. Hopefully Francine, Gilda, Annie, Manny, and Danny can find some peace in their lives at some point.

Hello there, this is the OP of The Chaotic Chain AU! I hope you are well, and once again, sincere thanks for loving the headcanons I made. ^^ 

I actually have an addendum that I completely forgot to write in my reblog, since I was super excited, but here you go!

Francine’s partial electric type as not only does she wield “the power” but also because I headcanon her to be an ousted former member of The Electric Company, thanks to a huge amount of fan-theories primarily on fanfiction.net as well as the subtle hints in S1 EP1 “Skills” and S1 EP26 “A Whole New Francine.” I also headcanon the fact The Ruiz and Carruthers families had something horrible happen between them, explaining why Francine does not have a father figure. (I’ll leave that to your imagination too. I’ll reveal it in due time.)

Annie’s Tera Type is Psychic mainly because of her hypnosis abilities and even though she’s still learning, it’s in her alright. Must have been a thing in the Scramblers. 

Manny’s Tera Type is Dark because of the fact his brains can be susceptible to malicious intent very easily. That, and he’s kind of already malicious.

I made Danny’s typing Dragon as I felt it would be a strong symbol for evil. Most places I’ve seen see dragon-like creatures as harbingers of terrible things. (I am fully aware of their auspicious symbolism too! Not to worry, but for the sake of this AU, I use this interpretation.) That and the symbol of a dragon could be used in a Metonymic Sense! ^^ 

Gilda’s original unchained typing is Electric/Normal. Seeing as she follows nearly everything Francine does, I thought it would be a no-brainer to have her types imitate Fran’s!

You know how Pokemon all have unique battle cries when entering a fight? Well, The Pranksters get to have them too! (To possibly attempt to intimidate The Electric Company) If you have ideas for them, let me know. XD 

Now that I saw your reblog, I shall add some extra smaller abilities! Like Francine using Cedilla Throwing Stars and of course, Annie’s Polka Dot Crystals! (Which I will have her conjure by her stompies! These crystals can either badly poison or confuse the opponent. Having a mix of her poisonous and hypnosis powers.)

I’m thinking about having particular memories that are causing The Pranksters’ fury in the first place. As in moments from an episode they were in! (I.E. The Memory granting Francine strength could be either the first episode (S1 EP1) or the very last. S3 EP12.)

ALRIGHTIE! I GOT THOUGHTS ON THESE ONES, TOO, MWAHAHA

• I thought I was the only one with that Francine headcanon! For me, the "subtle hint" was Francine mouthing along to the Skills Song in the pilot. The next note is my version.

• In my fic (In Pranksters' Company/IPC), Francine was considered as a member of the Company but never finished the ritual to get her Skill. At the time, her Wordballs were a very pale blue, and when Hector and Jessica saw this, they assumed it meant she was either too weak or trying to trick them. After she was rejected, Francine started to hold a grudge against the Electric Company, and the pain and anger bled into her Wordballs, hence why they're purple now.

• Matter of fact, I believe Francine's father is canonically dead, which I always just took to be something tragic like an accident (IPC doesn't have a canon cause of death for him)...but if it was a family-on-family fight? Oh, that could get dark fast, in a good way!

• I should have mentioned this in my reblog, but the Tera types are extremely fun MOSTLY because the Pranksters could be wearing their Tera Jewels like/with hats! Francine with the lightbulb, Manny with the spooky face, Annie with the giant eye, Danny with the crystal-Salamence-lookin’ thing, and Gilda with just a chonky diamond.

• I have a slight inspiration for the Prankster-mon battle cries; songs that I associate with them! (Since TEC is a very hip-hop type of show, I think the Prankster-mon having musical influences in their calls would be great!)

Here’s Annie’s, Manny’s, Danny’s, Francine’s, and Gilda’s. Don’t mind that it’s a bunch of random YT shorts, I curated them for the specific parts of the songs! (Francine is the Regina and Gilda is the Gretchen, heehee)

• TYSM for considering my little details! If I had to add another fun concept: what if all the Prankster-mon were particularly good in one stat?

- Gilda: high HP (sweetheart Girl-Scout type)

- Danny: high Speed (wiry body type)

- Manny: high Defense (stocky body type)

- Francine: high Attack (will not hesitate to punch you, considering the description mentions “blinding rage”)

- Annie: high Special Attack (to go with the Tera type)

And none of them have good Special Defense because they’re all weak to Psychic, so it works out!

I cannot wait to hear more about this, my MandJTV-loving brain is fully on board.

And I don’t know about all the memories, but the one driving Annie deserves to be “Scrambled Brains” (every time I rewatch that ep and hear “I WANT MY BODY BACK NOWWWW!”, my heart physically hurts)

Oh, and I also love this one for Francine, but for the sake of really carving out their relationship, I feel like the Meet The Plastics lineup is good to match with Gilda’s.

So… I may or may not have had a terrible day. I mean, it started okay. Found some lost items, and had some good food… but then it just went downhill and here I am now. Apologies for the venting going on here. Er… semi-vent.

It probably isn’t because of bad luck though.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that! Here, take some fun prankster headcanons:

- One time the pranksters were all at a town fair and there was a booth where people could get glitter makeup. Gilda made them all go…and yes they all partook and enjoyed it!

- Annie likes to make clothes for Manny’s little robot. She also likes to make things out of duct tape and always picks the WILDEST patterns when she’s making duct tape stuff (naturally) She’s even teaching Manny how to make the robot clothes and he’s getting good

- Manny’s mom keeps an album of all the pranksters when they were little. Scratch that, several albums! The four have known each other since they were little, of course, and then Gilda just recently had joined them by S3. Her favorite is this one where they’re all in early elementary and eating ice cream on a hot day. The ice creams are kinda melting and it’s cute. I wonder what their favorite ice cream flavors would be?

- Also I like to think that Annie had long hair as a kid and then chopped it when she hit her teens because why not? You’ll always find your way back home, as Hannah Montana says

- Francine, Annie, and Gilda regularly go for manicures together. Francine pays. Annie asks for nice drinks while they’re waiting. Gilda doesn’t have to do anything, she just gets to feel fabulous.

- Manny has custom Miis made of himself and the electric company and the pranksters

- don’t tell anyone, but Francine loves DCOMs and has been spotted watching Hannah Montana lol

- Danny and Annie bond over art and have been known to do “paint and sip” nights involving soft drinks instead

- and finally, the pranksters have a group chat, and BOY IS IT LEGENDARY!

TEC: The Chaotic Chain

Despite me absolutely cringing at this crossover, I managed to make an infodump about it. Thank goodness. Anyways, I would like to thank a couple folks on the platform for inspiring me.

@/arianimates - I LOVED your Toxic Consequences AU. I LOVE IT SO MUCH! (Also, you’re also the reason I got into The Teal Mask entirely, for that, I am grateful to the highest degree. So thank you! Grrrriific! Mmkay! Yip-ip-ippy!)

@/propranksterpropaganda - I love the stuff that you make regarding The Pranksters! I just saw your recent art-piece and I LOVE the way you interpreted Annie Scrambler’s prankster planet design!

Chained Francine (Electric/Poison)

“Francine in her blinding rage seeks to terminate her adversaries by the absolute worst means necessary. This in term awoke a strange never-rotting peach and it granted her wish in exchange for her consciousness.”

Francine is possibly the most deadly of all the Pranksters, seeing as she inherited the powers of her equal, Pecharunt. However, she generally prefers to use wordballs as her main form of attack as they’ve been infused with the poison from the toxic chain acting as her headband. (She will only use Binding Mochi or the Toxic Chain Formation abilities if threatened.) Francine is actively searching for Hector, in hopes of him submitting to her iron fisted rule.

Chained Gilda (Normal/Poison)

“Gilda sought control over the populace, much like her closest friend in the whole earthly plane: Francine. This would catch the attention of the strange never-rotting peach and thus her wish was granted.”

Known Powers:

Connotation Manipulation (Primary)

Power Inheritance (Secondary)

Gilda’s a strange case. Being Ogerpon’s equal, she was not that evil to begin with, just particularly loyal to Francine. She was also responsible for bringing The Pranksters together whenever conflict brought them down, thus when her wish was granted, she would be able to inherit any of her friends’ powers if she wanted them. (So sort of like how Ogerpon would use her masks to inherit elemental powers.)

Chained Annie (Ground/Poison)

“Why wouldn’t the world pay attention to her? Was it her actions in the past? Was it Lisa Heffenbacher’s own fault? Whatever the case, Annie was consumed by a desire for attention and the malice took the form of her wish, which was granted, but at what cost?”

Known Powers:

Tremor Stomping (Primary)

Hypnosis (Secondary)

Annie, strangely enough resembles her equal the most from her transformation. Even Fezandipiti would be envious of the beautiful form Annie took on. Anyways, onto the powers. Because of the toxic chain taking the form of her dress’ sash, her stomping ability was amplified to a rather drastic degree, being able to cause earthquakes registering from 5.0-5.9 on the Richter scale. Unfortunately, Annie did not inherit most of Fezandipiti’s abilities, so she makes up for this with her hypnosis power granted before the incidents happened. 

Chained Manny (Steel/Poison)

“I’ll take my superior Intelligence… thank you.” - Manny Spamboni, S1 EP1.

Known Powers:

Intelligence of Inhuman Degrees. 

Manny’s the odd one out when it comes to outward abilities. He never possessed any to begin with, unless you count immense smarts. He could invent any last gadget in an instant if he so desired. This made him worthy of being Munkidori’s equal. All I can say is to watch your back. Manny will be one step ahead of you, always. A brain can be stronger than any superpower after all. He decided on his chains being wrapped around his wrists.

Chained Danny (Dragon/Poison)

“Poisons of Inconstancy followed Danny around before the events of the incidents to follow. He did not wish to be weak anymore, and of course he would be granted his desires at the cost of his living mind.”

Known Powers: 

Rebus Puzzle Formation (Primary)

Synecdoche Usage (Secondary)

Danny’s way stronger than he used to be, thanks to the toxic chain taking the form of his suspenders. Not only are his Rebus puzzles stronger in nature, being able to summon whatever they hint at, but also just fragments of a whole can be of Danny’s use. Synecdoche is the act of using a part to refer to something whole after all… Anyways, using smaller fragments to build up strength appears to be the game Danny’s playing. Strength in Numbers. (Okidogi would like to know your location.)

Now, as it’s customary for most of these infodumps, it’s headcanon time once again. Wow. What a surprise. XD

Bouncing off my previous infodump, each of The Pranksters represent a different aspect of language arts and it usually shows itself by powers or by speech.

Danny will often use metonymy in his Rebus Puzzles or will speak it out loud in his regular vocabulary.

Manny’s very fond of litany usage, and if you spot him repeating a certain phrase a couple times, it’s natural. Repetition’s his game. That, and he’s also fond of Limericks too, expect a blend of the two.

If Annie’s sentences come off as incomplete, it’s likely you’ll spot her using enjambment. She’ll continue thoughts into multiple stanzas without ever using a pause. One Single Strike of a sentence is enough for her.

Francine and Gilda will often work together in terms of combat style. Expect diacritical marks to be seen when her words or sentences are formed, as she’s very precise on what sounds should be said. That, and if the connotation of a word seems to change suddenly, that’s Gilda’s doing.

The Pranksters will turn out much more ruthless in their evildoings, seeing as they’ve basically snapped and now are using more lethal means of trying to defeat The Electric Company. Perhaps this will prove to be successful…?

Despite his poisoning, Danny’s fondness for Peeps, M&Ms and Chili remains. He’s got one strange food sense. (Totally not a reference to The Good Place. Nope.)

Curiously, each of The Pranksters are weak to Psychic Types, which Sigmund and Sandy likely are. Perhaps they may play a part in stopping The Pranksters, or at least subduing them from possibly causing serious harm? In this regard, it’s likely The Pranksters will be weaker to mind games and uses of logic that outsmart even Manny’s heightened intelligence.

Of course, wearing poisonous chains of indeterminate origin has some hefty costs. Each of the Pranksters will feel slight amounts of pain brought upon them if a nasty plot somehow fails. The poisons came at a cost of failure.

They will have Terastallized Forms, but I’ll leave that to your imagination though. Go wild. Absolutely Wild. Their Tera Types are as follows: Francine = Electric, Gilda = Normal, Annie = Psychic, Manny = Dark, Danny = Dragon.

All of the pranksters also have some of the Festival Of Masks versions of well… the masks! Danny has the Okidogi one, Manny has the Munkidori one, Annie has a fezandipiti one, Francine has the festival’s version of teal mask and Gilda has the festival’s version of the wellspring mask.

My mind has been feeling very Gilda-Francine oriented and I have so many theories about why I think they may be close. So… you get to have my ramblings again. ^^

My general theory, is that because the series uses the wording of how Francine “took Gilda under her wing/took her in” I have a belief Gilda may not have parents, and because she looked up to Francine so much, sees her as a big sister she never had.

This in term would make Francine very happy. She had someone who could be her assistant, while Gilda got family. I like to think Francine learns as to why Gilda looks up to her so much, and for once, reveals a softer and kinder side. (Partially seen in Francine’s Letter Y Prank Cam Video.)

Because of this, the two physically cannot be separated. Or at least… can’t be for extended durations of time. I mean, Gilda did say she only could help out Annie for a while in “Spooky Summer Soirée” on the word of Francine.

The two bring each other genuine joy ever since. Gilda always seems to have some new way of ruining Marty Farms’ life in some way, and Francine uses her classic tactics to scare off Hector.

Fun fact, in the early stages of making The Chaotic Chain, I also included masks that granted the Language Arts powers to The Pranksters. Those would have been the Metonymy, Litany, Enjambment, Diacritic, and Connotation masks. Then I realized I’m basically ripping off The Teal Mask DLC… so I scrapped that.

Anyways, onto the main part of my ask. Why do you think Francine and Gilda are close in The Electric Company? Do you have theories on Gilda’s past?

Gilda moved to Turfville (again, the name of the town) with her dad (parents divorced when she was very young) and promptly met Francine, who…

Actually. I might as well share the part of my fic that explains it, right from Gilda’s mouth! (Her and my OC, Melee, are in a setting where they have animalistic forms, hence the mentions of tails and fur and paws and stuff)

Order is the deity who gave the Electric Company their powers. The “red spirit” is Chaos, the deity who gave the Pranksters their powers! ^^

Let me know if it’s hard to read, LOL, Melee’s got a VERY thick Jersey accent and I do write like a play script.

When Return-A-Balls Work.

My colored pencils do not have precise colors sadly, apologies for any inaccuracies. Normally I use Procreate, but… I wanted to hand draw something for you folks.

I colored amateurely on purpose, as I wanted to go for a sort of children’s illustration in. A way. I added the digital part in Procreate.

I was always so mad the little animated characters always rooted for the electric company. Not today. Nuggets and The Bat decided to side with Francine and Gilda.

I’m not leaving you all on sad notes today.

So… here’s what I’d do to make The Pranksters feel better. I’m no expert, but they deserve happiness too. I really do not like how dismissive The Electric Company was of their feelings. So.. here I am making a very cheesy “fix-it” plot.

(Warning, badly written fan-fiction ahead and a poor attempt at exceedingly heart-rotting wholesomeness.)

So, Shock’s a double agent, or at least I like to believe so. He’s been witnessing what’s been happening and something on the inside of him told his gut to turn against TEC, so, he listened to that feeling. He called up a couple particular people, and offered reparations for the damage caused by TEC. Of course, he could not fix it all, but he could at least show some kindness.

Firstly, arriving at The Carruthers House, Antigone had got the message and let him in. An upset Francine was very dismissive at first, but when Shock revealed his intentions as well as the fact he was holding a basket containing a modified bottle of Franscent, now flavored to be a mix of Vanilla-Lavender, a modified Return-A-Ball that worked as advertised, and finally, the Garden Phlox-Holly Bush hybrid, revived and in full bloom. Francine appreciated Shock’s kindness, and in return, she offered up some quality time to just… make amends. If Fran was going to be a leader, she’d need some good social-emotional skills.

Next, he would find himself in the park, seeking out the Scrambler Family’s hypnotism tent. Sigmund answered the call, and he knew what Shock had in store. An upset Annie would be lying on a couch, but she’d get some unexpected compliments. Shock would tell Annie that he actually liked the fashion sense the rookie hypnotist brought to the table, not to mention that outfits like those would likely inspire those to express themselves as they pleased in a healthy way. For that, Annie would be beautiful in her own way. Her heart shattered yet was put back together, as she’s never had anyone outside of her friends notice her. Shock didn’t require anything in return but Annie did leave a little something. A teensy polka-dot crystal that would grant kindness if it made contact with a living being.

The Spambonis were up next, and they wouldn’t be at home, but rather at school. Shock came across Manny teaching a group of kids how to exactly put together a simple device and he explained every last part, from the electrical wires that carried the currents, to the exact filaments and power sources needed to make the device tick. Sammy Spamboni would take notice of Shock’s arrival, and because of the call, let the plan flow. Manny was wondering what Shock was doing here, only to slowly come to the realization he wanted to make amends, with this method being active listening. Manny would go over the last few safe connections of the wires and then let the kids have a try. Shock had listened to every last detail and had perfected the electrical circuit, much to Manny’s amazement. As if he had eaten an unmuffin, he was overjoyed to see someone had listened to him. After Shock’s departure, something may have been following the beatboxer as he walked onward to the Rebus household. A little sentient orange cone with treads that hugged the cement.

Upon arrival to the Rebus household, Granny Rebus introduced herself as Ezra, and warmly let Shock inside. Danny surprisingly enough, was expecting a visit today. I suppose someone told him of the plan. The little orange robot had delivered a piece of parchment with a ribbon of emerald. When Danny had opened the letter, a formal apology on the part of Shock was seen. No detail was left out, and no incident went unnoticed. He was fully aware of what was happening but did nothing, as The Electric Company was rather rigid when it came to rule-following. Danny was moved by the letter, and thus was the quickest to forgive, as he has shown mercy before, but never in the full force he would now.

One last stop was left. Gilda Grace Flip herself. She was at the playground, texting Francine about how much she genuinely appreciated her company, and reassurances she would be fine out on the town for a while. Shock would approach the prankster apprentice, and inform Gilda of every last wrongdoing The Electric Company had done, so down to the incidents before any of them could remember. Gilda would forgive Shock, but not without a condition. It thankfully was an easy one, and was a secret they would take to the grave.

It would be forever known Shock was a forgiving kind of person, and upon showing mercy to his former adversaries, they would slowly but surely accept his apologies. He would be the firs to know that The Pranksters were wrongfully accused of their villainy, or at least partial bits of it. He knew the truth, and he now could not speak it to the false heroes he swore loyalty to.

Hey, just going to say, apologies for the writing. I’ve been desperately wanting to write some fanfiction for TEC for a while, and yeah. This happened. I always saw potential in Shock, so… hence double agent.

Now that I think about it, would The Pranksters work as Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters? You’ve got The Carruthers + Gilda, The Scramblers, The Spambonis, and The Rebuses. What animals would they be?
