I know there's a significant overlap in my followers between people with disabilities and chronic pain and people who like to cook, so I thought I'd share what I did this long weekend.
I've wanted to grow my own herbs for a while, but between my difficulties kneeling and squatting, and the nonsense that passes for "soil" out here in socal (clay and sand do not soil make, y'all) I didn't think I had a chance but then I came across this great little planter by VegTrug. It's a little pricey, but they regularly go on sale on Amazon and I picked this grey-washed one up for $75 and that price is still active at the time of this post.
It took me about 30 mins to set up by myself with just a screwdriver, and filling it was incredibly easy. I did have to bend down to get the potting mix but if you have a table or rolling cart, or someone to help you with that bit, you could do it all either standing or seated. Harvesting and watering are both so much easier at this height as well.
You can so also remove the (biodegradable!) liners with their contents if you want to switch things up.
And if you like the little slate markers, I got those here and just wrote on them with a chalk marker.
This company has raised beds for larger veggies and stuff too, I just can't speak to their ease of set-up or use. I'm in no way affiliated with VegTrug either, I just really want other folks to know about this thing. The Amazon link above does get me a small commission, but if you don't like that you can just search for VegTrug 8 Pocket Herb Garden and find it like that :)
