I finally watched the most recent episode of JJK and I hate to say this, but I actually like Higuruma. It's bad because he's literally replacement Nanami and I'm pissed that he has a domain when Nanami was just a first grade sorcerer😔
But his episode was so cool and he seems like a really cool character to think about... I'm so conflicted.

the most interesting part of writing a full hollanov AU that sticks somewhat close to the book's order of events is you really cannot have them acknowledge their feelings to each other too soon or it breaks. at first i thought the distance between them was necessary because they needed it to observe and think about each other, but now i know better. if they go to the cottage before ilya's ready, he leaves. he just runs. he runs and he doesn't delete shane's number but he doesn't contact him again and the whole thing ends. it's held together with gossamer-thin threads. they need the distance and the time so shane doesn't open his mouth too early and ruin this thing.
it's almost as fascinating that shane knows it, too. shane's gonna have rose from the beginning in this story, which means he's gonna come to terms with himself a hell of a lot quicker. he and ilya will graduate with artist's diplomas after three years, and by year 2.5 shane will know he's in love with ilya just as sure as he knows he can never ever tell him or ilya will bolt. he thinks russia's the reason 'cause he hasn't clocked ilya's depression or family shit at all, but he's right. it's wild.
